Aston Villa have held talks with an ex-Juventus star’s agents as his club are forced to raise cash through sales by the end of June.
Villa’s summer transfer plans are beginning to take shape following an outstanding 2025/26 campaign under Unai Emery, with the club already active across several areas of the market.
Villa are expected to be busy over the coming months after securing Champions League football and lifting the Europa League.
Recent reports have linked the Midlands club with Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas, with talks already underway over a potential move as Villa assess their long-term goalkeeping options.

Villa are a highly attractive destination right now.
Oscar Mingueza has also remained on Villa’s radar, with the Spanish defender available on a free transfer following the expiry of his Celta Vigo contract.
Now, another update has emerged on a familiar name who’s been repeatedly linked in the last few weeks.
Aston Villa hold talks with Matias Soule’s camp as Roma forced to sell
According to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Aston Villa have already spoken with the representatives of Roma attacker Matias Soule as they explore a possible summer deal.
The report claims Villa are among the clubs to have held discussions with the Argentine’s entourage, while Brighton are also credited with an interest in the player.
Crucially, Roma are understood to be under pressure to generate funds through player sales before the end of June, potentially creating an opportunity for interested clubs.
That financial backdrop is arguably the most important aspect of the story.
Roma’s need to balance their books before the close of the financial period has been widely reported in Italy, and Soule is viewed as one of the club’s most valuable saleable assets.
Villa’s recruitment team appear to have recognised the situation early and have already begun laying groundwork should Roma decide to cash in.
Reports from Italy suggest Roma are seeking around £34 million for the 23-year-old, a figure that reflects both his age and long-term potential.
Soule arrived in the Italian capital from Juventus in 2024 after establishing himself as one of Serie A’s brightest young attacking talents.
Although injuries interrupted parts of his 2025/26 campaign, he still showed flashes of the creativity and technical quality that originally made him one of the most highly-rated young forwards in Italy.
Roma observers continue to view him as a player with significant upside despite an inconsistent season.
For Villa, the attraction is obvious.
Emery has consistently favoured versatile attacking players capable of operating across multiple positions, and Soule fits that description.
Comfortable on either flank or in a more central creative role, the ‘entertaining‘ attacker would provide additional depth and competition in Villa’s attacking unit.
The timing of the situation may also work in Villa’s favour.
Because Roma are reportedly looking to raise funds before June 30, interested clubs could find themselves negotiating with a seller motivated to complete business relatively quickly. That does not necessarily mean Roma will accept a reduced fee, but it could accelerate discussions if formal bids arrive.
There is still a long way to go before any deal is completed, though.
Competition from elsewhere could also develop as the transfer window progresses, with the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal also believed to be fans of Soule.
Nevertheless, the report provides another indication of Villa’s admiration for the South American.
With Roma facing a significant financial deadline, this is one transfer story that could move quickly in the weeks ahead.
