It was Ogden’s 13th home run of the season, helped South Warren get past Madison Central (Richmond) 4-3 and move into the No. 5 spot in this week’s MaxPreps Top 25 high school softball rankings. Ogden also started the game in the circle before teammate Courtney Norwood took over in relief and earned the win.
South Warren (43-0) will take on a 40-win Highlands (Fort Thomas) squad in the semifinals Friday.
The Spartans have been led all season by Ogden, Norwood and senior Florida State signee McLaine Hudson. The future Seminole had two hits and scored two runs in the 12-0 first round win over Oldham County (Buckner).
In Ohio, No. 7 Kenton Ridge (Springfield) capped a second consecutive 32-0 season by winning the Division IV state championship game 7-6 over Licking Valley (Newark). Down 6-0, the Cougars were led by sophomore Ivee Rastatter and junior J.J. Davis. Rastatter slugged two home runs and fired four straight scoreless innings to pick up the win in the circle.
Davis, an Ohio State commit, had three hits and three RBI, including the go-ahead knock in the sixth inning.
In California, No. 9 Destiny Christian Academy (Sacramento) won the NorCal Division 1 crown while No. 16 Mater Dei Catholic (Chula Vista) picked up the SoCal Division 1 championship.
Destiny Christian erased an early deficit to complete an undefeated season. LSU signee Ayla Tuua hit her 19th bomb of the season and struck out nine batters in the title game. The senior finished her career with 48 home runs and 47 wins.
