Nottingham Forest and West Ham United are set to do battle in the summer transfer window in pursuit of an experienced star, who has been called up to the 2026 World Cup.
Nottingham Forest and West Ham approach World Cup star
Despite relegation to the Championship, West Ham are still aiming to compete all the way with Premier League sides. The Hammers were left behind on the pitch last season and simply have to get things right in the market to avoid the same fate in the next 12 months. Failure to return to the top flight would be catastrophic.
As for Nottingham Forest, they did what West Ham couldn’t last season by avoiding the drop without any real drama. Vitor Pereira earned the trust of Evangelos Marinakis and will be sticking around at the City Ground. It, therefore, comes as no surprise that the Tricky Trees are dipping back into the South American market.
As relayed by journalist Pablo Oliveira, who was quoting the defender’s agent, West Ham and Nottingham Forest have launched contact to sign Leo Pereira from Flamengo this summer.
His agent, Ricardo Scheidt, has confirmed that he has received several proposals for the 30-year-old ahead of next season, with some of those being concrete.
Pereira is under contract until the end of 2027, but it remains to be seen whether that puts Flamengo under any pressure to sell this summer.

Experienced Pereira could partner Murillo
It wouldn’t be the first time that Forest have had success in the South American market. Once upon a time, it was Murillo who arrived. He has been their best defender ever since and has been on the radar of several big clubs over the years.
Now, Forest could sign his compatriot in Pereira, who is set to experience his first World Cup with Brazil this summer. The 30-year-old is full of experience and could cap off his prime by completing a move to the Premier League.
If those at the City Ground are fans of players with South American flair and defenders who can produce goals that some midfielders can only dream of, then Pereira is certainly one to watch.
