Did he jump or was he pushed? Regardless of the circumstances, Danny Rohl is heading off for pastures new in double quick time, departing Glasgow Rangers having overseen a dismal end to the 2025/26 campaign.

The presence of Jurgen Klopp and the Red Bull pathway might be an enticing prospect for the German, but is such a move really a step up? Is the Austrian Bundesliga really enough of a pull to leave Ibrox behind?

Either way, the Gers will soon have the Premiership’s leading manager from last season, Derek McInnes, on board, the Scot’s return to Glasgow having seemingly been a long time coming.

The plan will be for McInnes to assemble a title-chasing squad this summer, with things already starting positively following the prior capture of his former Hearts skipper, Lawrence Shankland.

That deal might not be the only reunion of the transfer window, by all accounts…

Rangers could pounce to seal £6m summer signing for McInnes

It was no surprise to see early rumours emerge that McInnes could look to make Claudio Braga his first signing in charge at Ibrox, with the Portuguese forward having been the driving force behind Hearts’ title charge, alongside Shankland.

Rivals Celtic are also believed to be in the mix, but the McInnes factor could help sway things in Rangers’ favour, with the club already said to be looking at a potential deal.

It was reported that a fee of around £5m could be enough to get a deal over the line, although having already seen Shankland depart, the Jambos may be reluctant sellers.

Braga isn’t the only forward on the agenda at Ibrox, however, with Football Insider reporting that the Old Firm side could pounce on the chance to bring Vaclav Cerny back to Glasgow.

As per the report, they are putting ‘serious consideration’ into the idea of re-signing the 28-year-old, provided that a potential bargain deal arises.

At present, Besiktas are looking to recoup all of the £6m that they paid to sign the Czech winger from Wolfsburg a year ago, making it a potentially ‘difficult’ deal to do.

Braga & 6 new signings arrive: The dream XI Rangers could build under McInnes

A look at the dream starting line-up that could be built under incoming head coach Derek McInnes at Rangers.

Rangers’ current model is to move for targets with possible resale value, but they could make an exception if the chance is there to sign Cerny on the cheap.

Why Cerny would be a better signing than Braga

Managing to line up with the forward line that so nearly took Hearts to the title last season would represent a coup for McInnes and co, with Shankland and Braga having been such a fearsome double act at Tynecastle.

Braga-Shankland-Hearts

Braga, in particular, proved a real breakout star of the campaign following his arrival from Scandinavia, going on to score 14 league goals to claim the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award.

Set to turn 27 later this year, however, he isn’t exactly a young rising star himself, suggesting he may fall into the same category as Cerny as a player whom Rangers won’t be able to make a profit on later down the line.

There’s no denying Braga’s talent and potential, although the big tick against Cerny’s name is that he has already been there and done it in a Rangers shirt, following what was a stellar 2024/25 campaign.

Unlike Andreas Skov Olsen, who also arrived on loan from Wolfsburg, Cerny certainly lived up to the billing amid what was a difficult season for the club as a whole, having been a real shining light from the flanks.

In 52 games in all competitions, the left-footer scored 18 goals and assisted nine for the Light Blues, a fine return for any winger.

For comparison, Braga’s first season at Hearts saw him score 17 times and register six assists in 44 games in all competitions, albeit while primarily operating as a number ten or second striker.

Already a cult figure at Ibrox, following his memorable derby exploits at Parkhead, Cerny could hopefully slot back in smoothly and pick up where he left off previously, taking away the risk of such an investment.

His prior body of work also makes for strong reading too, notably scoring and assisting 43 goals in just 78 games at FC Twente, while even in Turkey, he’s chipped in with 15 goals and assists in his first 34 appearances for the Istanbul outfit.

In the case of Braga, his performances were something of a bolt from the blue considering he had only operated in Norway’s lower leagues prior to the most recent campaign, with it perhaps difficult to tell whether 2025/26 was merely a flash in the pan.

Perhaps working under McInnes again would ensure his momentum continues, but considering Cerny has already flourished in a Rangers shirt, he might well present the bigger statement signing this summer.
