Trinity, which moved to No. 1 just last week, cleared the first hurdle in the process by winning a state championship. The Shamrocks knocked off Boyd County (Ashland) 12-0 in the final behind a clutch performance by pitcher Grayson Willoughby.
Now Trinity just needs to wait out the final week of the season as teams from Indiana, Maine and Wisconsin complete their seasons. MaxPreps will unveil its final rankings and national champion June 23.
While much of the rest of the MaxPreps Top 25 remained intact this week, St. Mary’s Prep (Orchard Lake) entered at No. 25 after winning Michigan’s Division 2 championship. The Eaglets were crowned national champions in 2022.
Game of the Week
St. Mary’s Prep def. Kenowa Hills, 6-4. The
Eaglets rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to tie the game at
4-4 and then scored two runs in the top of the eighth to pull out the
win in the Division 2 championship game.
Pitcher of the Week
the second straight week, Grayson Willoughby of Trinity earns the
Pitcher of the Week distinction. He had a no-hitter for four innings in
the championship game against Boyd County before giving up a basehit in
the fifth. He finished with his 12th win of the season (12-0), striking
out seven with no walks in a 12-0 win.
Hitter of the Week
in the 6-4 win over Kenowa Hills in the Division 2 championship
game.
Streaks
Germantown lost to Fond du Lac in Wisconsin’s state playoffs to have its win streak end at 27 in
a row. St. Mary’s Prep ended its season with 27 straight
wins and will likely begin the 2027 season with the longest active win
streak.
