Chelsea‘s business relationship with Real Madrid is becoming one of the defining stories of the summer transfer window.
The Spanish giants have already completed a deal for Marc Cucurella, ending the left-back’s spell at Stamford Bridge after he established himself as a star in west London.
That transfer was viewed as one of the biggest departures of Chelsea’s summer.
However, reports now suggest Real Madrid could be preparing another major move involving a key Chelsea player.

This time, the focus is on Enzo Fernández.
The Argentina international has become one of the most important figures in Chelsea’s squad since arriving from Benfica in a British-record transfer.

The west Londoners really want him.
Fernandez played a central role throughout the 2025/26 campaign and was one of the first names on the team sheet under both Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior.
His performances in midfield have consistently attracted attention from around Europe, and there were suggestions at one point that Maresca could take Fernandez with him to Man City.
Now, according to Sport Italia journalist Gianluigi Longari, Real Madrid have taken a significant step forward in their pursuit of the World Cup winner.
Enzo Fernández agrees terms to join Real Madrid from Chelsea
Longari reports that Fernandez has already reached a verbal agreement with the Spanish giants over a five-year contract.
He also stated on social media this afternoon that Chelsea do not want to sell Fernandez, and that position is understood to remain unchanged despite advancing interest from Madrid.
Fernandez remains under a long-term deal and is considered one of the foundations of Chelsea’s project. However, the latest claims suggest the midfielder is prepared to push for the transfer.
That could become an important factor if negotiations develop over the coming weeks.
According to Longari, initial contact between Chelsea and Real Madrid is expected shortly, and Fernandez is valued at a minimum of £120 million.
That figure would place him among the most expensive midfielders in football history.
It would also represent a major financial decision for Real Madrid despite their willingness to invest heavily in elite talent.
Fernandez joined Chelsea after helping Argentina win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He was named the tournament’s best young player and quickly established himself as one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe.
Since arriving in England, he has become a regular presence in Chelsea’s midfield.
His passing range, ball progression and ability to dictate possession have made him a key player at Stamford Bridge, and those qualities are believed to be among the reasons Real view him as an attractive target.
For Chelsea, the situation remains delicate.
The club have already seen Cucurella depart for Madrid this summer, and losing another high-profile first-team player to the same club would represent a significant blow for Xabi Alonso.
As things stand, no agreement has been reached between the clubs, but the midfielder’s future has become one of the biggest stories involving Chelsea this summer.
