UFC boss Dana White has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Alex Pereira vs Ciryl Gane at UFC Freedom 250.
Last weekend, Alex Pereira failed in his attempt to become a three-weight UFC champion in his interim heavyweight title fight against Ciryl Gane. The Frenchman was able to stop the Brazilian sensation, and while it was an impressive win, a lot of people couldn’t help but question whether or not he had used too many illegal shots to the back of Alex’s head to get him over the finish line.
Herb Dean has caught a lot of criticism in the aftermath, mainly from Alex Pereira, but the general consensus right now seems to be that there wasn’t too much wrong with how things played out. Either way, Pereira is eager to get his point out there, which you would expect given how it all played out.
In a recent scrum, Dana White gave his thoughts on the Alex Pereira vs Ciryl Gane debacle.
Dana White discusses Alex Pereira incident
“If you watch the fight, it’s undeniable that he got hit with some strikes to the back of the head. But in the middle of the action, you know, when it’s going on and guys are rolling around trying to get out of it, sometimes some fouls happen and maybe Dean should’ve said hey, watch the back of the head or warned him or something like that. You know, I don’t know.”
“I can tell you this, I can tell you this, Alex Pereira is not a whiner. Alex Pereira doesn’t complain about things or make excuses after fights, so, I have to believe that he believed that. That he truly believed that, you know, that was true.”
Regardless of what anyone says, it certainly feels like Pereira wants to keep trying to prove himself in the heavyweight division. Either way, though, whether he stays up there or tries to become a three-time UFC light heavyweight champion, it doesn’t feel like we have seen the last of Poatan inside the cage – not by a long shot, and that can only be a good thing.
