The legendary Georges St-Pierre has some advice for the newly minted UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje.
In the main event of UFC Freedom 250 on June 14, the 37-year-old Gaethje proved the oddsmakers and many in the MMA community wrong by dethroning the then-undefeated two-division champion Ilia Topuria. The American fighter dismantled Topuria for 3 rounds, and after Round 4, the 29-year-old’s corner decided to stop the bout as Gaethje had already turned the Georgian-Spaniard’s face into a horror movie.
“The Highlight” is now a former two-time interim 155-pound champion, an ex-BMF title holder, and the current UFC lightweight champion. He boasts a professional record of 28-5, with his only losses coming against former champions such as Max Holloway, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Dustin Poirier, Eddie Alvarez, and Charles Oliveira.
After the dominant UFC Freedom 250 title win over Ilia Topuria, “GSP” has encouraged Justin Gaethje to retire. The Canadian opined on The BreakTalk that Gaethje’s journey as a fighter and his accomplishments are really inspiring, and if he were in Gaethje’s shoes, he would retire after the White House title win.
“Justin is a kind of guy that works really hard and comes back from adversity… If I were him, I would retire. That would be an amazing ending. What else does he want to accomplish? He did it all.”

Georges St-Pierre added that “The Highlight” can still beat a lot of guys and “go on a roll,” and it is hard to leave the game when one is leading the list. However, Gaethje should consider retiring and focus on his health, as he has already accomplished GOAT status.
What has Justin Gaethje said about retirement?
Justin Gaethje recently appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience, where he stressed that retirement is not on his mind. However, after being a part of two brutal slugfests in 2026, Gaethje wants to take the remainder of the year off and is looking forward to defending his title in 2027 against top contender Arman Tsarukyan. He told Rogan:
“Right now I’m planning on [fighting again]. There’s not something natural in me that feels like it’s over.”
