Colby Covington has taken aim at Dustin Poirier again, this time after Poirier’s arrest in Georgia and the release of airport footage tied to the incident. Colby Covington has jumped back into his long-running feud with Dustin Poirier, using Poirier’s arrest and the fallout from it to launch another public attack.

Colby Covington Takes Swipe at Dustin Poirier Following Arrest

In a post on X, Covington wrote, “I’ve been telling you all exactly who @DustinPoirier is off camera for years! Now you finally all get to see how he earned the name: Louisiana Swamp Trash. I’ll be accepting all your apologies below.”

Poirier has spent the past few days moving from a short acknowledgment of the arrest to a much more serious statement about alcohol and life after retirement, saying he is at the point where he needs help. Covington, rather than easing off, used that stretch to push the feud further and present the arrest footage as proof of claims he says he has been making for years. On Instagram, Poirier said:

“I am at the point where I need some help. Walking away from fighting hasn’t been easy on me, and alcohol isn’t the answer. It has ruined my father’s life, and I will not allow it to ruin mine. My family deserves me at 100%. I’m trying to do everything I can to get my mind right and take the right next steps.”

Covington has been calling Poirier “Louisiana swamp trash” for several years, including after UFC 272 in 2022 when he beat Jorge Masvidal and immediately turned his attention toward Poirier in his post-fight remarks. The phrase became part of the public rivalry long before this latest episode, which is why his new post reads less like a fresh jab and more like a continuation of a feud he has refused to drop.

The history between them gives the post more weight than a random social media swipe. Covington and Poirier were once connected through American Top Team, and their falling out turned into one of those MMA grudges that stayed alive even without a fight booking. Over time, Covington accused Poirier of being fake behind the scenes, while Poirier made clear he had little interest in giving him the matchup or the attention he wanted.

This week’s exchange comes as Poirier is dealing with the biggest non-fight story of his post-UFC life. He was arrested on Father’s Day at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on a misdemeanor public drunkenness charge, and body-camera footage later circulated showing him arguing with staff and challenging people around him during the confrontation.

After initially posting, “Love you all. I’m working on myself,” Poirier later shared a fuller statement saying retirement has been hard on him, that alcohol is not the answer, and that he does not want the pattern that hurt his father’s life to damage his own family.

There is also a strange layer to all of this because the fight never happened. Covington spent years calling for a bout with Poirier, often framing it as unfinished business between former teammates, but Poirier retired without taking it. That left Covington with a rivalry he could keep feeding online even without a walk to the cage, and this week’s post shows he still sees value in doing exactly that.
