Newcastle United’s attacking department was one of the most feared in the Premier League a couple of years ago, as the club secured a place in the Champions League.
Eddie Howe led the Magpies to a fifth-placed finish back in 2024/25, with his side’s tally of 68 league goals only bettered by the top three in England’s top-division.
Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon were a key part of the forward line, subsequently playing a part in 59% of the goals scored during the aforementioned campaign.
However, next season will see neither of the duo ply their trade at St James’ Park, after the pair secured moves to join Liverpool and Barcelona in recent times.
As a result, there’s huge pressure on the recruitment team to land multiple attacking-minded players this summer to try and make the club a force to be reckoned with once again.
Newcastle start work on signing £43m attacking star
Despite the window only opening last week, Newcastle have already been touted with a move for a whole host of talents – including Bayer Leverkusen winger Kerim Alajbegovic.
It’s been reported that the Magpies have been offered a deal by the player’s agent after netting 13 times in 44 appearances during his spell at RB Salzburg last term.
The 18-year-old has also netted at the ongoing World Cup for Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a deal only expected to cost in the region of £20m this summer.
The teenager isn’t the only player currently under consideration on Tyneside at present, with RB Leipzig star Antonio Musa another who’s caught the eye of the recruitment team.
According to Lee Ryder, Newcastle have sent scouts to watch the Norwegian international in recent months to gain added information ahead of a potential transfer.
The journalist has claimed that the 21-year-old has been identified by staff behind the scenes at St James’ Park as the ideal replacement for the recently departed Gordon.
The Englishman’s departure has handed Howe key funds to spend during this window, with reduced bids around the £43m mark set to be accepted by Leipzig.
Why Nusa would be better than Gordon for Newcastle
Losing Gordon after his impressive 2025/26 campaign will be a bitter blow for Newcastle, especially considering the impact he had within the final third.
The Englishman registered 17 goals across all competitions for the Magpies last term – with no player within the senior ranks managing to net a higher tally.
However, selling the 25-year-old for a reported £69m could prove to be an excellent piece of business, as the winger has often been inconsistent despite his eye-catching goal tally.

Howe’s men also managed to make a £29m profit on the attacker’s signature after forking out a reported £40m for his services back in the winter window of 2023.
The Magpies can easily use such funds to secure a move for Nusa this summer, whilst also having £26m left over after selling the Englishman to the Spanish giants.
However, it could also prove to be a blessing in disguise for Howe’s men, with a move to land the Norwegian international seeing the club land a bigger talent.
When comparing their respective stats from the current World Cup, the 21-year-old has managed to outperform the English forward in various key attacking areas.
Nusa has featured for fewer minutes compared to Gordon at the current tournament, but it hasn’t stopped him from completing more successful dribbles per 90.
His tally of 1.3 dribbles highlights his ability to glide past the opposition, whilst also being able to put the finishing touches on the end of his mazy runs for his country.
The youngster has created more big chances per 90 this summer, which only reaffirms his dominance over the former Newcastle man when teeing up his teammates.
The RB Leipzig star has also been dispossessed on fewer occasions to date – backing up Ben Mattinson’s statement that he’s “one of the best winger prospects in Europe.”
Nusa has been a key asset for his nation without the ball too – subsequently making three times more defensive contributions per 90, an asset to his game which Howe would certainly adore.
The importance of landing a top-level left-winger after Gordon’s departure is undoubtedly massive, but it’s crucial that the Magpies identify the right player to fill the void.
A move for Nusa would provide the club with the perfect long-term solution in such an area, with the rumoured £43m fee for his services potentially being yet another astute piece of business.
