Newcastle United‘s nightmare summer may yet be on the up. With Sandro Tonali on his way to Tottenham Hotspur in a stunning deal worth close to £100m, the Magpies have burst into life in chase of their own incomings,
Names like Johan Manzambi and Bouzamana Toure have both emerged as serious targets, but those on Tyneside might not be done there. Reports are now claiming that Fiorentina are facing the inevitable sale of Nicolo Fagioli.

Football FanCast’s Verdict |

|---|---|
|
Credibility |
Newcastle certainly have the money to spend and the need for a midfielder following Tonali’s departure. Fagioli is not someone that Fiorentina want to sell, but as the Magpies have experienced themselves, the Italian club will have no choice if the right offer arrives. |
|
Finances |
As stated, money won’t be an issue here. Fiorentina value their midfielder at around €40m (£34m) and that’s just a fraction of the price that Newcastle just sold Tonali for. |
|
Insight |
Fagioli is still just 25 years old, but already has plenty of experience. He’s a box-to-box midfielder who would very much be a like-for-like replacement for Tonali, whilst arguably providing a greater attacking threat. |
|
Impact |
The biggest winner here would be Newcastle, especially if Fagioli isn’t the only name to arrive. The 25-year-old would instantly solve their Tonali problem at a bargain price. It would be an ideal transfer. |
Things are looking up for the Magpies and they’ll be hoping to have their fresh midfield space filled in the coming weeks, be it by signing Fagioli, Manzambi or both.
Newcastle receive major boost in Fagioli chase
As reported by Quotidano Sportivo in Italy, and relayed by Sport Witness, Fiorentina are already planning for Fagioli’s exit amid interest from Newcastle.
The Italian club are fearful that those at St James’ Park could hijack their star and have commenced their search to find a replacement as a result.
It’s a major boost for Eddie Howe and his side, who can reportedly land the Italian at no more than €40m (£34m) in the coming months. What is certainly interesting is that Fiorentina’s fear comes directly from Tonali’s move to Tottenham. La Viola clearly believe that Newcastle now have the resources to swoop in and sign the man they’re desperate to keep.
Newcastle must sign two midfielders this summer
PIF are on the right track, but they’ve been here before. This time, there must be no doubt about potential arrivals and Newcastle must finalise deals for the likes of Fagioli and Manzambi ASAP.
It must also not be a case of either or. With Tonali already gone and rumours beginning to centre around Bruno Guimaraes’ future, those at St James’ Park simply have to sign two midfielders this summer.
Manzambi is beginning to look like a given and Fagioli should be next. The Italian is at the peak of his powers, valued at an affordable price, and ready-made to step into Newcastle’s midfield.
