Will Claude Giroux want to stay in the East or will he want to chase a Cup with the Edmonton Oilers?
The Sheet with Jeff Marek: David Pagnotta and Marek talk about where free agent Claude Giroux could end up.
Marek: “Claude Giroux. So I mentioned a couple times on the program before you came on, like there is, like Claude Giroux has a number of different situations that he’s mulling right now, as I understand it.”
Pagnotta: “Yes.”
Marek: “I do believe that Edmonton is one of them. He has, as we all know, strong ties east and strong ties with the Ottawa Senators. I’m not sure how this one plays out, but Claude Giroux definitely has a number of options that he can pursue.
Do you have a spidey sense on this one? Does he stay east? I mean, we’ve seen it before. It’s always tough when someone spends their whole career East, sets up their family, all of it. It’s tough to go West. We’ve seen it before, but nonetheless, not to say that it can’t happen unless in a team like Edmonton would certainly present an opportunity to win a Stanley Cup. But give a spidey sense on how this one goes.”

Pagnotta: “And I think that’s something that he’s seriously considering, is that possibility of going out joining the Oilers in their quest for the, for a Cup. I think Ottawa’s still on the table. Philly was in this for a stretch. I was told earlier not to expect it unless something changes that Philly’s out, so again they could circle back and something could happen. But as of earlier , it sounded like Philly was out, and Ottawa, Edmonton were kind of the options here.
And I think him and Ryan, I think they’re fully considering that possibility of going to Edmonton to chase that, chase the Cup. Play with, you know, two of the best ones in the league. Add some veteranship. Understand where his role is going to be. It’s going to be, not this isn’t Claude Giroux 10 years ago. So understand his role is going to be a little limited, but he’ll still have opportunities to succeed there, and I think that’s something that’s being taken into serious consideration for him.”
