Newcastle United were not in a good moment when they reached the end of the 2025/26 season, having slumped to a 12th-place Premier League finish under Eddie Howe.
But it’s a new dawn at St. James’ Park, with moves being made with the summer transfer window still having around two months of business still to be conducted.
Ewan Jaouen and Sean Steur are rising prospects who will play for the Magpies next season, while 20-year-old winger Bazoumana Toure has signed for the club too.
But Howe still hungers for more, having sounded out an even bigger talent than Toure.
Newcastle leading race for winger after Toure
Toure has completed a £43m transfer from Hoffenheim to Newcastle, and though the Ivorian winger is only 20 years old, he has come off the back of a productive Bundesliga campaign, scoring five goals and supplying nine assists.
Electric-paced and unpredictable, Toure will fill in for Gordon now that the Three Lions star has joined Barcelona, but Howe will be conscious of overburdening him, indeed setting his sights on another exciting attacker who could be an even bigger talent.
According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle believe they are leading the race for RB Leipzig winger Antonio Nusa, though the line is long as suitors queue up to try and sign the 21-year-old winger.
Newcastle might have lost Gordon (and Alexander Isak one year ago), but Howe is calmly piecing his frontline back together this summer, and the £43m-rated Nusa would be the cherry on the cake, adding depth but also unique quality.
The Magpies are rivalling Tottenham Hotspur in the race, but given that AC Milan’s Rafael Leao is the Lilywhites’ top target in attack this summer, Howe and company could have a real chance to bring this exciting talent over to Tyneside.
Why Nusa can be a better Newcastle signing than Toure
Newcastle are wrapping up a few exciting deals this summer – and with plenty of time to spare until the end of the transfer window. Toure might be considered an exciting talent, but Nusa could be a cut above, as he is showing for Norway at the World Cup.
Of course, Nusa is still learning the craft. In the Bundesliga last season, he probably even flattered to deceive, only scoring four goals and supplying three assists before jetting over to the Americas with his nation.
Still, he’s a potential superstar, with teammate Erling Haaland hailing him as “incredibly talented“, tipping his countryman for superstardom, while writer and analyst Harvey Diamonds has suggested he has “the potential to become a £100m+ winger.”
Nusa has an edge in front of goal that is almost Gordon-esque. It could add the dimension that Leipzig so desperately need, and while Toure has pace and creativity in his locker, Nusa may well offer the right skills to become a true talisman for the Toon.

An unrelenting dribbler with just as much combativeness as Toure, Nusa’s two-footedness and clinical potential make him a first-class prospect, someone who could be a game-changer for Howe in the future.
Talent scout Jacek Kulig has predicted that Nusa can become a “future icon” for his nation. Alongside Haaland, that might just become a reality for the flashy forward.
He would add another layer to a frontline searching for a resurgence. He might even become the main man, eclipsing a thrilling talent such as Toure.
