There’s little denying that Leeds United are one of the most well-supported clubs in the Premier League and their fans have gained a reputation for their unwavering and loyal support.

However, the sheer number of supporters only increases the expectations and weight put onto the players and management team to produce the goods on the pitch.

Last season, Daniel Farke was subsequently able to meet such demands by keeping the Whites in England’s top division after securing promotion the season prior.

Now, the German must take the club up another level throughout the 2026/27 campaign, as the club aim to push for a place in Europe for the first time in a generation.

The arrival of one player at Elland Road will certainly help him in his task, especially if he can repeat the goods which he produced in the Premier League last campaign.

Why Wilson will be crucial for Leeds next season

It’s not very often top-level talents become available on free transfers in the modern game, and it’s even rarer that they run down their contract without having a move lined up.

However, that was the case with Harry Wilson this summer, as the Welsh international turned down a new deal in favour of leaving Fulham at the end of his deal in June.

As a result, Farke’s men swooped in and fended off interest from Everton and Aston Villa – subsequently signing the 29-year-old on a deal until the summer of 2030.

Such a move has the potential to go down as one of the signings of the summer, especially after the winger registered 17 combined goals and assists for the Cottagers last term.

The Whites faithful will be hoping he can emulate such numbers in 2026/27, with the aforementioned tally higher than that of any member of the club’s senior ranks from last season.

Wilson also created more chances per 90 than any player within Farke’s side, whilst also achieving the best cross completion rate of any player from the German’s squad.

Such an asset could make the Whites an even bigger threat next season – as they netted 22 set-piece goals, the third-highest of any team in England’s top-flight.

The player who will be unstoppable with Wilson at Leeds

The signing of Wilson is undoubtedly a huge statement of intent from the Leeds hierarchy, but it’s likely to be just the start of the club’s summer business in the window.

Further additions are certainly needed if the Whites are to reach the next level throughout the 2026/27 campaign, with work already being conducted to land new additions.

It’s been reported by TEAMtalk that Leeds have already entered talks with PSG over the possibility of a deal for 18-year-old forward Ibrahim Mbaye.

They claim the teenager has been allowed to depart the French giants this summer to gain more valuable game time, but at least six other English sides are said to be tracking him.

Whilst competition is high for the Senegalese international, Farke’s men must work tirelessly to secure the youngster’s signature ahead of the other interested parties.

His stats from the recent campaign highlight his quality within attacking areas and demonstrate why he can form a deadly partnership with Wilson at Elland Road.

Mbaye completed 1.9 successful dribbles per 90 in Ligue 1 last campaign, a tally which ranked him in the top 15% of all attackers within Europe’s top-five leagues.

The aforementioned figure allowed him to create 1.8 chances per 90 – numbers which could see him be the perfect partner for Wilson in Yorkshire next campaign.

The youngster’s tally of five combined goals and assists in his 10 league starts highlights his phenomenal ability in front of goal – backing up GOAL’s claim that he’s the “next Kylian Mbappé.”

Such praise is extremely high considering the French forward has already netted eight goals in his six appearances at this summer’s World Cup in the USA.

Whilst it’s unclear how much a deal for Mbaye would cost Leeds this summer, it’s evident he is a player who is more than capable of becoming a key senior member in Yorkshire.

At just 18, he has bags of time to take his career to the next level under Farke’s guidance and be a pivotal part of the manager’s plans to achieve European qualification.

A partnership of the teenager and Wilson is one for the fanbase to get excited about and could take the club’s attacking department to the next level for many years to come.
