Glasgow Rangers have already done plenty of business in the summer transfer window to add more quality to Derek McInnes’ squad, but there is still work to be done.
The Light Blues want a left-footed centre-back, another central midfielder, and a right-sided attacker before the window slams shut to build a squad that can compete for the Scottish Premiership title.
One of the right wingers on the club’s radar is Besiktas forward Vaclav Cerny, who joined the Turkish club last year after he spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Ibrox from Wolfsburg.
The Super Lig side are looking for a fee of £6m, recouping the fee that they paid Wolfsburg, for the Czechia international, but it remains to be seen whether or not the Light Blues are prepared to meet their demands.
Why Rangers should meet Besiktas’ demands for Vaclav Cerny
Rangers should pay the asking price for the experienced forward because the Gers currently lack a naturally left-footed winger who can come in off the right foot to open up the pitch on that side, after Andreas Skov Olsen’s loan came to an end.
None of the wingers at the club last season hit double figures for goals in the Scottish Premiership, which meant that Danny Rohl often lacked regular goals from the wide positions.
Cerny would solve that problem for McInnes, though, because he scored 12 goals in the Premiership in the 2024/25 campaign, averaging a goal every 208 minutes in the division.
The 28-year-old star, who also scored six goals in 12 Europa League matches for the Scottish giants, would return to Ibrox as a star who has already proven that he can score goals on a regular basis in a Rangers shirt.

His experience in Scotland and playing for Rangers along with being a tactical profile that McInnes currently wants makes him the perfect target to bolster the club’s ranks on the right flank, which is why they should pay the £6m needed to sign him.
Rangers have hit gold on star who is worth more than Vaclav Cerny
The £6m transfer fee needed for Cerny looks like a huge bargain for the Scottish giants when you consider that the club currently value one of their other wingers at an even higher price.
Back in January, Rangers rejected an offer of £10m from Ligue 1 side Monaco for forward Djeidi Gassama, deciding that the Mauritania international is worth more to them than that.
The Gers demanding more than £10m for the former Sheffield Wednesday attacker shows how much of a bargain it would be to pay £6m for Cerny, because he has proven even more at Premiership level as a winger.

Gassama recorded eight goals and assists combined in the Premiership in his debut season with the Light Blues, half as many as the Czechia international managed in the 2024/25 campaign.
Whilst this shows how much of a bargain it would be to sign Cerny from Besiktas, the club’s £10m valuation of the forward also shows that they hit the jackpot when they brought him in last year.
Former sporting director Kevin Thelwell signed the winger from Sheffield Wednesday for a fee of £2.2m to bolster Russell Martin’s side, and he hit the ground running with a return of four goals in six Champions League qualifiers.
His goalscoring levels dropped off as the season went on, unfortunately, and he ended the campaign with nine goals and six assists in 56 matches in all competitions.
15 goal contributions and having the durability to play over 50 games in a first season at Ibrox is nothing to be sneered at, though, and that is why the Light Blues were right to demand so much money for him in January.
The 22-year-old whiz still has plenty of time left ahead of himself to develop and improve, adding more consistency to his play in the final third, and that is why his value at Ibrox could continue to soar.
Whilst Cerny does not have the same potential, as he is six years older, he has the quality in the here and now to be a terrific signing for £6m, and Rangers could hit the jackpot by having both of them in their side next term.
