The World Cup is the place to be for unexpected stars to emerge before sealing shock moves. The likes of Keylor Navas and James Rodriguez have used the competition to their advantage in the past and now Everton could be about to play their role in a surprising deal.
The Toffees have already landed Tyrique George and Hayden Hackney this summer, but have now got their sights set on Norway shot-stopper Orjan Nyland.

Credibility |
Nyland entered the World Cup knowing that he needed to perform well to earn his next move after his contract at Sevilla came to an end. It was a risky move, but one that may yet work out well after performing for his country and earning the interest of Everton. |

It’s a bargain deal for the Toffees, who have already opened talks to land a free transfer for the experienced shot-stopper, who could deputise for Jordan Pickford. |

Insight |
The 35-year-old is an ideal backup. He’s already had plenty of Premier League experience at Aston Villa and Bournemouth, and has since showcased his know-how on the biggest stage of them all at the World Cup. |

Impact |
It could be another name through the door at Everton and whilst Nyland wouldn’t steal the biggest headlines, he could prove to be important in his own right on and off the pitch. |
Everton have got their next target in their sights and could be about to welcome Nyland back to the Premier League for the first time since 2022.
Everton in talks to sign Orjan Nyland
As reported by El Desmarque in Spain and relayed by Sport Witness, Everton are now in talks to sign Orjan Nyland on a free deal this summer. The Toffees have expressed their desire to land a bargain deal and could welcome the Norway goalkeeper as a new backup to Jordan Pickford.
The shot-stopper proved that he’s still got it at the World Cup, as Norway reached the quarter-finals before ultimately losing to England in extra-time. In classic World Cup fashion, his performances may have been enough to earn him a move back to the Premier League ahead of next season.
Nyland proved his worth at the World Cup
Nyland will want to forget Jude Bellingham’s winning goal as soon as possible, but that should be made simpler by the fact that he enjoyed an excellent tournament on the whole.
By the time that Norway were eliminated by that Bellingham effort, Nyland had made 16 saves at the World Cup and maintained a save percentage of 69.6% – more than Pickford.

The veteran goalkeeper won’t steal major headlines if he arrives at Everton, but squad depth is key for David Moyes if he is to take the club into Europe next season. With experience and an impressive World Cup behind him, Nyland would offer exactly that.
