A big storyline to watch this week in Augusta, Georgia, is the recruitment of No. 43 overall prospect Asa Montgomery. The 6-foot-7 small forward has continued to make steady strides in his game and developed into one of the more versatile forwards in the 2027 class.

He has improved his jumper and ball handling while emerging as a high-level athlete who can impact both ends of the floor in myriad ways.

Montgomery helped USA Basketball win gold at the FIBA World Cup with his energy, athleticism, versatility and finishing at the rim.

“Man, it was crazy,” he said of the experience. “Being able to be there in Türkiye and win a gold medal was a great feeling.”

With AOT on the EYCL, Montgomery has taken on a much larger role. He’s become the primary ball handler, generates offense for his team, and leads the league in scoring.

“I’m feeling good,” he said despite the travel and time change. “Coming back here, I’m able to show off my versatility. At USA, I was more of an energy guy. Here, I’m the main option, so it’s cool to show both sides of my game.”

As his profile rises, so does his recruitment. Auburn, Georgia, and Georgia Tech have been involved for a while, but several new programs have recently entered the picture.

“I’ve been hearing from bigger schools,” Montgomery said. “It’s just a blessing. I’ve just got to keep working.”

Those schools include HoustonNorth Carolina and Florida. Montgomery shared his thoughts on each heading into the final live period.
