Tottenham Hotspur look to be heading back into the transfer market, despite already spending over £200m on as many as six reinforcements so far this summer.
The Lilywhites have still got their sights set on attacking talent and could yet make their move for Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi whilst also swooping in to sign Napoli’s Antonio Vergara.

Credibility |
Napoli are well aware of Tottenham’s interest. The Lilywhites have already expressed their desire to sign Vergara and left the Italian club scrambling to agree a new deal with their attacking midfielder. Failure to conclude negotiations with a new contract would undoubtedly allow Spurs to complete their hijack. |

Finances |
An offer worth €25m (£22m) is reportedly on the way, but it remains unclear where that offer is coming from. It also remains to be seen whether Napoli will be willing to accept that offer, especially if it is from a Premier League club. |
|
Insight |
The 23-year-old would be a solid squad player for Roberto De Zerbi, but is not at the level to be anything beyond that. Last season at Napoli, the midfielder was involved in just three league goals and earned just over 600 minutes in a campaign centred around ill-timed injuries. |

Impact |
Although Vergara wouldn’t steal the biggest headlines, Napoli are clearly desperate to keep hold of their star and they would likely be forced into the market if Spurs secured his signature. |
Both Bournemouth and Spurs are racing to sign Vergara, with Napoli doing everything to keep hold of their young attacking midfielder this summer.
As reported by TuttoSport and relayed by Sport Witness, Napoli are scrambling to agree a new deal with Vergara after Tottenham launched contact to sign the 23-year-old.
The Italian club are desperate to keep hold of their star, whose current contract expires in 2030. They clearly want to hand him some improved terms in an attempt to lure him out of Spurs’ clutches. Whether it’s enough remains to be seen, however.
Although those in North London are yet to make an offer, they’ve proved in the current transfer window that they’ve got cash to burn and the ambition to match.
Tottenham should seek alternatives to Antonio Vergara
In the summer of the Lilywhites, it’s hard not to think that Spurs could do better than Vergara. He may come cheaper than other options, but that also means less quality and that’s the opposite of what the Lilywhites have welcomed in recent weeks.
With just three goal involvements to his name in Italy last season, it’s difficult to imagine a world in which Vergara stars in the Premier League, especially for a side in transition.

Instead of welcoming Vergara, Spurs would be better off keeping Mathys Tel. The attacker offers more quality and Spurs already know just how much potential he still has to unlock.
