The Longhorns could be getting an elite addition to the 2026 roster ahead of the fall season. Five-star CB John Meredith III is expected to enroll ahead of the season and begin his college career immediately. The Crowley (Texas) North Crowley prospect transferred from Euless (Texas) Trinity to North Crowley in the offseason and was ruled ineligible after his transfer was deemed to be for athletic purposes.
At 6-foot-2 1/2, 187 pounds, Meredith is ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 1 CB and the No. 1 overall prospect in Texas for the 2027 class.
Meredith chose Texas in June while the administrative process behind his transfer played out. After being ruled ineligible by the District Executive Committee, Meredith and his family appeared before the State Executive Committee to appeal the decision and seek a waiver. After losing a close vote that resulted in his appeal being denied, Meredith and his family went into planning mode. While there are still some details to work out, we are told that it’s extremely likely Meredith will be joining the team. Here’s how the decision played out.
