One of the nation’s top recruits will start college much sooner than expected. John Meredith III will enroll at Texas in the coming weeks, according to 247Sports national recruiting analyst Mike Roach.
Meredith was the No. 1-ranked cornerback prospect in the Top247 for the class of 2027. He will maintain his five-star grade of 98 in 247Sports’ rankings following the move, but he will not be slotted into the official Top247 for the class of 2026 as the reclassification comes barely a month before the start of the 2026 college football season.
Reclassifications have become a growing trend in recent years, but Meredith is by far the most high-profile recruit to shift his developmental timeline this late in the process. He is still viewed as a potential first-round talent with his length and speed, but the 247Sports Scouting Department is electing to not alter its final Top247 rankings for the 2026 cycle given the unique circumstances.
