Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made a recent approach to sign a new Premier League striker who actually scored at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season, with Spurs receiving a swift reply.
The Lilywhites have been one of the busiest sides in the transfer window this summer, completing deals for goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka, defenders Andy Robertson, Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and midfielders Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.
Roberto De Zerbi is preparing for his first full season in charge in north London, with Tottenham’s recruitment focus now shifting to the final third.

Tottenham make approach for Nottingham Forest striker Igor Jesus
One of those on the radar is Nottingham Forest forward Igor Jesus.
According to reports in Brazil, Tottenham recently made an approach to explore the possibility of signing the 25-year-old striker, who impressed in the Reds’ Europa League run to the semi-finals.
However, Spurs were quickly dealt a setback alongside fellow interested sides Porto and Juventus. The report claims Forest immediately rejected Spurs’ enquiry and made it clear they have no intention of selling Jesus.
That stance is perhaps unsurprising as the Brazilian has already shown why he is so highly rated by those at the City Ground, scoring 16 goals in his first season in England – one of which came in a 3-0 win at Spurs.
For Tottenham, the failed approach may well move them onto alternative targets before the deadline, and a new versatile forward to rival the likes of Dominic Solanke, Mathys Tel and Richarlison could be a wise decision.
Richarlison and Solanke have had their injury issues in the past, whereas Tel is still just 21 years of age. Richarlison was also the only Spurs player to hit double figures for Premier League goals last season, with his nearest challenger being midfielder Joao Palhinha, who found the back of the net on five occasions.
Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo has been linked in recent days, and he could be the perfect type of attacking arrival to challenge for a spot out wide or through the middle under De Zerbi, providing regular goal contributions in the manager’s attacking system.
A Premier League winner with top flight pedigree, Gakpo could be a wise option, should speculation of Spurs’ interest prove accurate.
