Newcastle United are set to name Matthias Jaissle as their new head coach, and the German is already looking to sign a player he is a “big fan” of.
Feyenoord winger Anis Hadj-Moussa is the man in question, with talks now reportedly underway over a move to St James’ Park.

The Magpies have undergone huge change in recent weeks. After Eddie Howe’s shock resignation, Newcastle moved quickly to identify Jaissle as their preferred successor, with the former Al-Ahli boss now on the verge of taking charge.
The 38-year-old will arrive with an exciting reputation after impressing in Saudi Arabia and is expected to oversee more recruitment before the deadline.
So far, Newcastle have strengthened with the arrivals of exciting winger Bazoumana Toure, highly-rated midfield duo Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba and goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen, while a deal is also set to be sealed for first-choice goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek.
As we know, winger Anthony Gordon departed before the World Cup to join Barcelona, and it appears as if the Magpies are not finished when it comes to bolstering the wide attacking department after Toure.
Newcastle in talks over Hadj-Moussa move
According to reports relayed by Sport Witness, Newcastle are in ongoing talks over a deal for Algeria international Hadj-Moussa, with Feyenoord valuing the winger at around €37 million (£31m).
Earlier in the summer, rivals Sunderland made an approach for Hadj-Moussa, however, Newcastle are now in for the forward with Jaissle himself a “big fan” of the player, according to journalist Dennis Kranenburg.
The incoming Newcastle boss was keen to sign Moussa during his time at Al-Ahli, but a deal never materialised, and that admiration has now carried over to St James’ Park.
The numbers explain why. Hadj-Moussa enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign for Feyenoord, scoring 14 goals and providing seven assists across all competitions.
Across his two seasons with the Dutch giants, he has contributed 25 goals and 12 assists in 83 appearances, which resulted in Robin van Persie describing him as a “special guy” and an “important player”.
Hadj-Moussa has also admitted in the past that he would “prefer to go to England” if he were to leave Feyenoord, so the stars could align for Jaissle to finally get his man.
Newcastle would be wise to back their incoming manager as soon as they can, and if the clubs can agree a fee in excess of £30 million, Hadj-Moussa could become the first marquee outfield signing of the Jaissle era.
