Why Celtic want to sign an even bigger talent this month

Celtic are closing in on the signing of right winger Haissem Hassan from Real Oviedo as their latest addition of the summer transfer window.

The Hoops have submitted a £9m offer to bring the Egypt international to the club and the Spanish side are likely to accept this bid in the coming days.

Hassan is already keen on a move to Glasgow and wants to make the switch, which means that personal terms should not be an issue for the Scottish Premiership giants.

The left-footed attacker now looks set to become the second big-money arrival of the summer after the £11m deal to bring Kasper Hogh to the club earlier this month.

Why Celtic need another wide player after Haissem Hassan

Hassan should not be the last addition made to the club’s options on the flanks in the transfer window, though, because the Hoops struggled in that department last season.

None of Martin O’Neill‘s wide players, on the left or the right flank, racked up more than one assist and Hyun-jun Yang was the only winger who scored more than two goals for the team.

These statistics suggest that Celtic need significant reinforcements in the wide areas to add more quality to their options in both positions, which is why Hassan should not be the final addition to their ranks on the flanks.

The Egypt international failed to score a single goal in 38 appearances for Real Oviedo last season, whilst assisting three goals, and is set to be a risky signing for Celtic, as they may be paying £9m to sign a player who could struggle for consistency in the final third.

That is why the Scottish giants should be in the market for another winger after Hassan to ensure that they are not in trouble if the £9m-rated attacker fails to make himself a success at Parkhead.

Celtic eyeing bigger talent than Haissem Hassan

In fact, the club are already looking at another wide player who could arrive in Glasgow as an even bigger talent than the Egyptian attacker this season.

Sky Sports reports that O’Neill is lining up a potential swoop to sign Utrecht winger Adrian Blake before the end of the summer transfer window.

The outlet claims that the Hoops want to switch their attention to a left wing signing after they get a deal for Hassan over the line in the coming days.

It adds that Blake, who has previously been touted at a price of £2.5m, is high up on the club’s shortlist of options to add more quality to their ranks on the left wing.

The Premiership champions should now be pushing to bring Blake to the club after getting a deal for Hassan done because he is an even bigger talent than the Egyptian.

As aforementioned, the £9m-rated right winger is due to arrive at Parkhead as a player who struggled at the top end of the pitch last term, failing to score a single goal for his club.

In fact, Hassan has scored four goals and provided six assists in 78 appearances in all competitions for Real Oviedo since the start of the 2024/25 campaign, which is far from an exceptional return.

Blake, meanwhile, has scored ten goals and supplied four assists in 67 appearances in all competitions in that same time in the Netherlands, including a goal against Celtic in the Europa League back in January.

The 21-year-old star’s return of seven goals in the 2024/25 campaign is more than Hassan has ever recorded in a single season at club level, despite the Egyptian star being three years older than him.

Blake, who started his career at Watford in England, appears to be an even bigger talent than the Real Oviedo forward because he has shown more promise at the top end of the pitch as a winger, offering goal contributions more regularly, whilst being younger and less experienced.

The English attacker, therefore, could be a more exciting addition to O’Neill’s squad this summer and provide more quality in the final third than Hassan, whilst playing on the other flank, if they both make moves to Parkhead this season.
