Out in Cache, Oklahoma resides a rising star.
Class of 2028 prospect Kenyon Sweat has a chance to become one of the Bulldogs’ most decorated recruits in recent program memory.
247Sports debuted Sweat as the No. 344 overall recruit across the ’28 cycle. He also rates as a top-50 wide receiver nationally and a top-eight prospect in the state of Oklahoma.
Sweat is up to five early offers, and this is all only the beginning for the promising talent.
“This all has been great,” Sweat said. “A lot of good people around me, good friends, teammates, coaches. They all play a big role in me being here. Coach Thompson, my head coach, I’ve been with him since seventh grade. He’s always been good to me and we always enjoy being around this sport together.”
“I don’t take any of this for granted, either. There’s still a bunch of work to do, obviously, and I know that. I’m still a ways away from where I need to be. But, I’m just going to keep grinding and keep getting better everyday. Very thankful for my parents, too. They’ve allowed me to be where I’m at right now.”
Sweat is very aware of the fact that he’s a bit of a rarity relative to his area. That said, he believes in the next wave of talent at Cache and wants to play a role in building the future.
“I know a lot of young guys on their way, and I really just want to help set an example here,” Sweat said. “Maybe start something new that hasn’t really been around here for too long. I’m trying to encourage different freshmen or eighth graders coming up. The next players coming up into this program to want to get better and be the best they can be.”
Of course, Sweat is still hoping to turn his own dreams into reality. A big step in the right direction arrived this summer as Sweat truly dove into ‘camp season’ for the first time.
“Yeah, it was all new,” Sweat said. “I went to one camp my freshman year. So going out to a few my sophomore year, it was very new.”
“First one, we went up to Iowa State. About a nine hour drive, but it was good to get there. Talked to all different coaches, got their opinions. And as we went on, you learned something new from each camp. Different coaches, they teach you different things. That stuck with me.”
“Just being around these coaches at these different camps, I talked to a lot of their receivers as well, I truly learned a lot.”
And Sweat is learning plenty about the recruiting process, too.
His first offer came from Iowa State. The Cyclones got out in front of a recruitment that’s set to explode.
