Everton are looking to end the summer transfer window in statement fashion. The Toffees have got their sights set on qualifying for European football this season and there would be no better way to prove their intent than by splashing out on a star striker.

David Moyes has spent the summer solving various problems in his side. The manager now has an impressive midfield to turn to after welcoming Hayden Hackney and Christian Norgaard, whilst Tyrique George is also one to watch going forward. But a few issues still remain.

It’s a well-known fact that Everton still need a right-back, with Brooke Norton-Cuffy the main name on their radar in that department. It’s also an open secret that they could do with a consistent goalscorer and that’s where Baris Alper Yilmaz could come in.

Everton’s potential striker options 26/27

Player profile

Beto

Powerful centre-forward who offers a physical presence, aerial threat and ability to occupy opposing centre-backs. Can provide a direct focal point in attack and is capable of leading the line on his own.

Thierno Barry

Young, athletic striker with the physical tools to develop into a long-term No.9. Offers pace, strength and movement in behind, while his size gives Everton another option when playing more directly.

Barış Alper Yılmaz

Versatile forward capable of playing centrally or from either flank. Brings pace, physicality and energy, making him a more mobile option who can stretch defences and contribute from several attacking positions.

The Galatasaray man is certainly experienced at the top level these days, featuring in the Champions League and at the World Cup. Just last season, he enjoyed another impressive campaign in Turkey – scoring 12 goals and assisting another 16 in all competitions. If Everton are looking for consistent, Yilmaz is their man.

This is also a player who can play all across the frontline. Throwing forward to an ideal future, that versatility would be invaluable if Everton qualified for European football in the next 12 months.

Time is ticking away in the transfer window, but reports suggest that the Toffees are pushing more than ever to sign the Galatasaray star this month.

Everton launch offer to sign Baris Alper Yilmaz

According to Turkish journalist Yakup Çınar, as relayed by Sport Witness, Everton launched an offer to sign Yilmaz worth €41m (£35m) which was rejected by Galatasaray.

The offer was the second of the summer from the Toffees and once again failed to meet the €50m (£43m) asking price of the Turkish giants. The saga, however, is far from over. The Merseyside club have now scheduled showdown talks with Galatasaray to hash out a deal for the attacker. Whether that sees their offer go up or Galatasaray’s asking price go down is now the big question.

It would be some commitment from Everton if they matched that £43m asking price, especially when considering it would be their second-most expensive deal of all time – just £2m away from their record transfer.

Yilmaz, however, would prove to be worth every penny. Still just 26 years old, he is at the peak of his powers and dreams of moving to the Premier League.

That dream could come true on Merseyside and Moyes would be the man to benefit if the forward hit the ground running and finally handed the manager a consistent goalscorer.
