On Monday, the Southeastern Conference released a pointed statement making clear its stance on players re-entering college sports after going pro.
Earlier in the day, the LSU Tigers added former New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Zxavian Harris, a 2026 undrafted free agent released earlier this month, and are slated to sign tight end Dae’Quan Wright, who was released by the Cleveland Browns.
“College sports are for college athletes,” SEC presidents and chancellors wrote following a videoconference.
“College athletes, not former professional athletes, have been at the heart of the Southeastern Conference,” they emphasized. “Individuals who choose to leave college athletics, sign professional playing contracts, and compete professionally should not then be permitted to return to college competition.”
