Chelsea offered deal to sign £150,000-a-week Premier League star

Chelsea have been offered a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, and they could make a concrete approach before the September 1st transfer deadline.

From an attacking point of view, it could be an exciting season ahead for the Blues, with Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro combining nicely to help seal a 3-2 Premier League victory against Fulham on Monday night.

However, Xabi Alonso‘s side weren’t quite as impressive at the opposite end of the pitch, with Robert Sanchez being beaten too easily for Josh King’s equaliser, before parrying Timothy Castagne’s effort straight to Gonzalo Garcia, who made no mistake from the rebound.

Sanchez got away with it on the night, with his side holding on to win 3-2 at Craven Cottage, but Jamie Carragher has insisted there is simply no way the west Londoners win the title with the Spaniard between the sticks, saying: “Chelsea will never win the league with Sanchez in goal. Impossible.

“And you’d think of the teams who’ve won the title. Last three teams who won the title have all changed the goalkeeper. Pep Guardiola bringing in Ederson. Alisson comes in for Liverpool. Arsenal don’t win the league if they have Aaron Ramsdale in goal, not David Raya. Impossible.”

Martinez, on the other hand, could have what it takes to handle the pressure and thrive at Stamford Bridge, having played in two World Cup finals, with the Argentinian winning the Golden Glove award in 2022.

The 33-year-old is also vastly experienced in the Premier League, making 228 appearances in the competition, during which time he’s conceded 280 goals and kept 67 clean sheets.

Moreover, a save percentage of 70.9% in the Premier League season was the joint-second best in the division, whereas Sanchez ranked in just tenth place.

David Ornstein reveals Martinez’s agents have offered him to Chelsea due to Zion Suzuki being named the Villa number one. Football Insider have further reported that the Blues are planning a formal approach to the Midlands club, which could be made over the next few days.

BlueCo want to bring in a new goalkeeper, following Sanchez’s disastrous display at Fulham, and the £150,000-a-week Argentina international is pushing to leave Aston Villa.

Earlier this year, Brad Friedel suggested it could be tricky for the Villans to replace their goalkeeper, saying: “It will be very hard to replace Emi Martinez. He is a world-class keeper, there is no doubt about that. He delivers 10+ points every season with his crucial saves at key points in games, which is so important for Aston Villa.”

Unai Emery started Marco Bizot in their Premier League opener and signed Suzuki from Parma to be the new starter, which paves the way for an exit.
