Hitter of the day
Caleb Bonemer, DH, Chicago White Sox (Double-A Birmingham): 3-3, 3 R, 2 2B, HR, 4 RBI, 2 BB.
When we ranked Bonemer the 31st-best prospect in baseball this summer, we noted in the “Why He Might Fail” section that he might just not hit enough against upper minors’ pitching. Those concerns have been slightly alleviated by his recent performance at Birmingham. The K-rate has been cut by nearly five percentage points since making the jump to Double-A, while Bonemer has maintained his prodigious power numbers.
Pitcher of the day
Cade Crossland, LHP, St. Louis Cardinals (High-A Peoria): 6.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 9 K.
A good changeup will get you far in the lower minors, and Crossland had one of the best in the 2025 draft class. He used the cambio to rack up 109 punchouts in just 72 innings of work in Low-A Palm Beach before getting an early-August promotion to Peoria. He’s not missing as many bats there but has been tough on Midwest League hitters, allowing just three earned runs in his 19 ⅓ innings of High-A work.
