Mick Terrill went from preparing to call BKB 58: Miami to fighting for its heavyweight world title. The former BKB and BKFC heavyweight champion will challenge unbeaten Gustavo “The Cuban Assassin” Trujillo on Saturday, August 29, after Mark O’Neill withdrew because of visa issues.
The title fight takes place at Miami’s James L. Knight Center, with Terrill accepting the assignment on extremely short notice. Reports differ on the exact window: BKB described it as a few days, while Forbes reported that Terrill had just 12 hours to take the bout. Either way, he was originally expected to work ringside as a commentator before putting himself forward to replace O’Neill.

Terrill, known as “The Butcher of Shields,” arrives following a first-round TKO of Florian De La Motte in the BKB 57: London main event on July 25. His bare-knuckle record stands at 11-2, with 10 knockouts listed in independent coverage; BKB says all 11 of his wins have come by knockout.
There is serious championship history behind the call-up. Terrill previously held BKB’s heavyweight world championship, winning the belt at BKB 5 and defending it twice. He then won BKFC’s vacant heavyweight title in December 2023, before losing it to Ben Rothwell in January 2025. In March, Terrill captured the inaugural BKFC UK heavyweight title with a 53-second first-round TKO of Jay McFarlane.
Trujillo enters as BKB heavyweight champion at 8-0, and every one of those wins has ended by first-round knockout. His most recent title defense saw him stop former WBA regular heavyweight champion Lucas Browne in the opening round at BKB 48 in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
The Cuban fighter also holds a 12-0 professional boxing record with 11 knockouts and was listed at No. 13 in the WBO heavyweight rankings ahead of the Miami event. That gives the fight a clear hook: Terrill has more bare-knuckle bouts and titles across promotions, while Trujillo has never had to fight beyond the opening round in BKB.
Terrill said he pushed for the chance as soon as O’Neill’s withdrawal became clear, framing the fight as a chance to prove he belongs at the top of the heavyweight division. Trujillo’s response was blunt: eight men have entered the BKB ring against him, and none reached round two.
The late main-event switch moves Yuriorkis Gamboa’s bare-knuckle debut into the co-main event. The Cuban Olympic gold medalist won gold at the 2004 Games and later held major boxing titles at featherweight, including the WBA and IBF belts. He faces Yesner “Cuajadita” Talavera.
The card also features former UFC fighter Aspen Ladd against Bianca Daimoni. Ladd has prior bare-knuckle experience, having stopped Shanna Biff at a BKFC event last November. Miami native Robert Duran Jr., son of Roberto Duran, meets Ryan Spivey.
