De Zerbi pushing Tottenham to sign Euro 2024 top scorer after Marmoush

Tottenham have completed another major attacking deal by signing Omar Marmoush from Man City.

The Egypt international has joined on a season-long loan with an obligation to make the transfer permanent next summer, and Spurs will reportedly pay City an initial £50 million in 2027, with another £10 million in add-ons.

Marmoush becomes Tottenham’s eighth summer signing and the second player to arrive from City this week after Savinho completed his £85 million move.

The 27-year-old was attracted by the chance to work with Roberto De Zerbi and believes his pace, goals and energy can help drive the Italian’s rebuilding project.

De Zerbi has described Marmoush as the type of ambitious and determined player he wants at Tottenham, while praising his intelligence and threat around goal.

Marmoush can operate as a central striker, a second forward or from the left, and that versatility should be important because Spurs already have Dominic Solanke and Richarlison available through the middle.

However, Richarlison is entering the final year of his contract and could leave following Marmoush’s arrival.

The Egyptian started only eight Premier League matches and managed three goals in 21 appearances. Injuries and international duty also disrupted his rhythm, while Erling Haaland continued to dominate the central attacking position.

Marmoush still scored eight times across all competitions, including three goals during City’s successful FA Cup campaign.

Tottenham believe regular football and De Zerbi’s attacking system can help him rediscover the explosive form he previously displayed for Eintracht Frankfurt.

Remarkably, Marmoush may not be the final forward to arrive.

De Zerbi pushing Tottenham to sign Cody Gakpo

Miguel Delaney reports that De Zerbi remains determined to bring Cody Gakpo to north London before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, and is pushing Spurs to strike a deal.

Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle to sign Bradley Barcola from PSG. The package contains more than £100 million guaranteed and could eventually rise to £120 million.

Barcola usually attacks from the left, creating an obvious overlap with Gakpo’s preferred position.

Liverpool are also continuing their pursuit of Crystal Palace winger Ismaïla Sarr after having an opening bid of £50 million rejected.

Andoni Iraola wants three further additions, including two players capable of operating out wide. At least one Liverpool attacker would consequently be expected to leave if those plans are completed.

That could finally create the opening Tottenham require.

De Zerbi has insisted that Spurs continue pursuing Gakpo despite their summer spending already passing £300 million, and Iraola did not guarantee the Dutchman would remain at Anfield when questioned about his future on Thursday.

Gakpo can play from the left, through the middle or behind a striker. His combination of power, finishing and Premier League experience explains De Zerbi’s determination.

Marmoush and Savinho have already transformed Tottenham’s attacking options, but adding Gakpo, who finished Euro 2024 as the competition’s joint-top scorer, would complete an extraordinary forward overhaul.
