Just days remain in the summer transfer window, but there’s still work to be done as far as Manchester United are concerned. They’re still bearing the scar left behind by Hull City on the opening day and that in itself should indicate exactly why further additions could be on the way.
It’s an open secret that the Red Devils still want to add a left-back to their side. Lewis Hall and Alejandro Balde have both been linked with late moves as a result. However, it’s also becoming clear that another striker could be on the agenda.
With Joshua Zirkzee’s future far from secure, the Red Devils have been sniffing around names like Jean-Philippe Mateta and now Atletico Madrid’s Alexander Sorloth.
Whilst the world continues to focus on Julian Alavrez, it could be the Norwegian who sneaks out the door in Spain – dealing Atletico a huge blow in the process.

It’s worth noting just how talented Sorloth is these days, even as Alvarez steals the headlines. The towering striker scored 20 goals in all competitions last season – three of which came against Real Madrid and Barcelona.
If Man United are seeking consistency and experience to match the youthful exuberance of Benjamin Sesko, then the Atletico Madrid star is their man.
Man Utd now in talks to sign Alexander Sorloth
As reported by TeamTalk, Man United are now in talks to sign Sorloth from Atletico Madrid before Tuesday’s transfer deadline. The Red Devils have been offered the chance to secure the forward’s signature and held direct contact with his representatives.
Sorloth, himself, is open to a Premier League return and the chance of redemption after failing to make his mark during a previous spell with Crystal Palace.
A lot has changed since that brief spell in 2019. The Norwegian is a proven goalscorer these days who would be returning to England with a portfolio of top moments on Europe’s biggest stage.
That includes a stunning four-goal haul against Real Madrid during his time at Villarreal in 2024, which drew plenty of deserved praise.
Then-teammate Gerard Moreno told reporters: “I hope Sorloth ends up top scorer. He’s a fantastic teammate. He deserves it. We’re going to try to help him. He’s had an incredible season.”
Moreno very nearly got his wish, too. That season, only Artem Dovbyk scored more than Sorloth’s 23 La Liga goals.
At 30 years old, Sorloth is fast-becoming a veteran striker and that perfectly aligns with what Man United are looking for in the final few days of the window. It would be a match made in heaven.
