Leeds United have joined the race for RC Strasbourg forward Martial Godo, with Daniel Farke looking to strengthen his forward line in the summer transfer window.

Leeds aren’t quite over the line, but they are now in a seriously strong position to remain in the Premier League, moving eight points clear of Tottenham Hotspur courtesy of a 3-0 dismantlement of Wolverhampton Wanderers at Elland Road on Saturday.

Noah Okafor was once again amongst the goals, with the left-winger bagging his seventh Premier League goal of the season, and he earned plaudits from his manager, who said: “We also speak about things that we want to see tactically, but all the credit goes to him. He’s in a fantastic shape and he needs to make sure he stays on it, stays humble and stays hungry and ride the wave as far as possible.”

Okafor is the Whites’ second-highest scorer in the Premier League this season, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin leading the way, after sealing three points against Rob Edwards’ side from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

Noah Okafor’s key stats this season

Okafor has played a major role in Leeds’ push to avoid relegation, netting a brace against Manchester United in the 2-1 victory at Old Trafford, and he has been a regular starter throughout the campaign.

  • 1,440 minutes played
  • 7 goals
  • 0.44 goals per 90
  • 1 assist
  • 2.2 successful dribbles per 90

However, despite the Swiss forward scoring five goals in his last five matches, the Elland Road outfit remain keen on signing a new left-winger this summer, and they have entered the race for a Ligue 1 star.

Leeds plotting move for Martial Godo

According to a report from Sports Boom, Leeds are now plotting a summer move for Martial Godo, off the back of his impressive performances for Strasbourg this season, netting 14 goals in all competitions.

The French side are hoping to receive €45m – €50m (£39m – £44m) for the former Fulham man, who made just two league appearances for the Cottagers but is now regarded as perfect for Farke’s system.

The winger could form an exciting attack alongside Calvert-Lewin and Okafor.

Godo has also been a key player for Strasbourg in Ligue 1, providing a higher combined number of goals and assists than Okafor, albeit the Ivory Coast international has been playing in a weaker league.

  • 1,302 minutes played
  • 8 goals
  • 0.55 goals per 90
  • 2 assists
  • 1.2 successful dribbles per 90

The London-born winger may now be ready to test himself in the Premier League, despite failing to make the grade at Fulham, but £44m would be a huge fee to pay for a player off the back of one encouraging season in Ligue 1.
