Manchester United are riding the crest of a wave under Michael Carrick, who will be emboldened by his side’s win over Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.
Whether INEOS decide to make the permanent appointment this summer remains to be seen, but there’s no question that he is doing all that he can, combining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s charisma and interpersonal qualities with the tactical acumen of someone like Louis van Gaal.
One thing’s for sure: Carrick is leagues above Ruben Amorim, his direct predecessor at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are starting to build, but they need some world-class quality in the summer transfer window, having, after all, already qualified for the Champions League.
Casemiro’s departure will call for a centre-midfielder, but United also need more firepower in attack.
Man United targeting record-breaking move
Manchester United’s star players want to see Carrick retain his position in the dugout next season – and beyond. However, though the manager bounce has been has been remarkable, there’s so much work still to do.
Benjamin Sesko scored a great goal against Liverpool, but Carrick hasn’t felt that the Slovenian has been ready to start week in and week out, so maybe it’s finally time to accelerate long-standing plans for a striker like Harry Kane. Easy, right?
Well, according to Fussballdaten in Germany, Manchester United are prepared to bring Kane back to the Premier League, ready to offer the Three Lions skipper a record-breaking Premier League salary.
Bayern Munich, it should go without saying, don’t want to sell, but the 32-year-old striker is believed to be keen on returning to England before the end of his career, and Old Trafford would only be too happy to accomodate, pouncing on their long-standing interest.
Chelsea and Barcelona are both interested too, but La Blaugrana can’t match United’s financial might, and Chelsea are in a spin, unlikely to qualify for the Champions League after their defeat against Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge.
It is stated that United are ‘determined’ to bring him back to English shores, with those at Old Trafford ready to test Bayern’s resolve with a bid that could reach £120m.
Why Kane could be the new Van Persie
This wouldn’t be the first time that Manchester United have signed a world-class striker who made their name with a Premier League rival. Let’s hark back to Robin van Persie, who rose to prominence in London with Arsenal before signing for the Red Devils in 2012.
He went on to win the Premier League under Sir Alex Ferguson, and now, Fergie’s former pupil, Carrick, could repeat the trick with an accomplished goalscorer.
Kane is more than that. Kane is one of the greatest strikers of his generation, and with Bayern Munich this season, he has scored 54 goals across 47 fixtures in all competitions, assisting seven goals and spearheading Vincent Kompany’s side as they push for Champions League greatness. He truly is, as journalist Daniel Storey put it, the “best player in the world”.

He forged his way forward over many years with Tottenham Hotspur, and it was there that Kane scored all 213 of his Premier League goals.
Hailed for his “generational” talent by The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare, Kane actually makes a higher grade than Van Persie did when in his Premier League prime, and he could prove the difference for a title-challenging United side who are searching for a Premier League title that was last lifted with Van Persie in the mix.
Kane is one of the greatest strikers of his generation, and inded a long-term Manchester United transfer target. The impact he would have on their frontline would be extraordinary, not only scoring but creating and tying attacks together. He would echo Van Persie before him, maybe even bringing a higher calibre of centre-forward quality.
He might not be the youngest, but he could mentor Sesko and provide a world-class attacking threat over the next few years, and for that, Kane could emulate Van Persie in moving to Old Trafford and leading the way. Maybe even toward his first Premier League title?
