Leeds United have been offered the chance to sign a Burnley star this summer, with the Premier League side on their way down to the Championship.
Leeds safety secured as Whites plan for summer window
There will be no jitters for Leeds in the last stretch of this campaign, because there was nothing to jitter about.
Daniel Farke‘s side sit 14th in the Premier League with two games to play, miles clear of the relegation zone, and while that does not make for particularly thrilling reading, it was never going to be about glamour this time around.
The mission was survival, and it has been accomplished.
Leeds are safe, comfortably clear of the bottom three, and can now turn their attention to what comes next.
That conversation is already underway.
The summer transfer window will be crucial if Leeds are to avoid another campaign spent looking over their shoulders, and strengthening the attacking options is understood to be high on the agenda.
Adding firepower will be essential if the club want to push into the top half next season, and one name is now firmly in the frame.
Leeds offered Burnley’s top scorer Zian Flemming
According to SportsBoom, Burnley forward Zian Flemming has been offered to Leeds by his representatives, with agents making frequent phone calls to clubs across the Premier League as they seek to engineer a move away from Turf Moor this summer.
Burnley’s relegation to the Championship has made Flemming’s departure all but inevitable, with the 27-year-old Dutchman having no intention of dropping down a division and is actively seeking a top-flight move.
It is easy to see why clubs are interested.
Flemming has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dismal Burnley season, leading their charts as the club’s top scorer with 10 goals in 27 appearances in the Premier League.
For a side that won just four league games all season and collected only 21 points, those numbers stand out.
His ability to operate both as a striker and as a second forward who drops deep to contribute to build-up play makes him a versatile option, and at 27 he is entering his peak years.
Burnley are understood to want around £17m for a player who still has three years remaining on his contract, which runs until 2029. That gives them a strong negotiating position even with relegation confirmed, and they are under no pressure to accept a cut-price offer.
The financial reality of dropping out of the Premier League does, however, mean that Flemming’s wages are a significant burden on the Championship budget, which adds a layer of motivation to sell if the right offer arrives.
Leeds are not the only club to have been contacted.
Everton have also been approached, with SportsBoom reporting that Flemming’s camp view the Toffees as a strong fit given their need for a more consistent goalscoring option.
Newly promoted Ipswich and Coventry are both monitoring the situation too, while interest from Serie A and the Eredivisie is also building.
No bids have been tabled yet and talks have not reached an advanced stage. But the groundwork is being laid, the calls are being made, and Flemming’s name is circulating at exactly the right time.
