Pedro Caixinha was the last Glasgow Rangers manager to lose four successive matches back in 2017, and it was 1985 the last time the club lost four successive games in the Scottish Premiership.

Danny Rohl, therefore, became the first Gers head coach in the 21st century to lose four times on the spin in the league after a 2-1 defeat to Hibernian at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

Rangers were above Celtic and in the title race before the start of this current run of dreadful results, and they have ended their own season with disastrous form.

The Light Blues are going to end the season without a trophy to show for their efforts for the second time in as many years, after Philippe Clement and Barry Ferguson failed to bring home any silverware last term.

Now, the Ibrox board have a decision to make on Rohl’s future because of how disappointing the end to the campaign has been under the German’s management.

What Danny Rohl has said about his future at Rangers

Speaking ahead of the game against Hibernian, the former Sheffield Wednesday boss suggested that he has no concerns over his future at the club.

Rohl told the BBC: “I think the last 48 hours, there was unbelievable support from the board. Everyone around me sees a lot of positive things, but we are also critical of ourselves. I think there’s no question mark.”

Whether or not the defeat to Hibernian and the reaction of the Union Bears, who had a conversation with the manager after the match, changes the situation remains to be seen.

After four successive losses in the league, a defeat to Celtic in the SFA Cup and the League Cup, and failure to progress in Europe, it could be time to call an end to the German’s tenure at Ibrox.

Rangers have already held talks with the perfect Danny Rohl replacement

When the Light Blues were searching for a replacement for Russell Martin last year, the Light Blues held talks with a manager who would now be a perfect replacement for Rohl.

The Scottish giants were reportedly advancing in talks to hire Kevin Muscat from SH Port, but he was in the midst of a title race and the Gers opted for Rohl instead of waiting for the Australian boss.

Now, SH Port are 12th in the Chinese Super League after 12 matches and that could make it easier for the Light Blues to convince him to make the move to Ibrox mid-season, as they are not in a close title race.

Prior to his team’s struggles this season, Muscat had won a league title in three of the past four seasons with SH Port and Yokohama F. Marinos, never finishing a campaign below second place.

Said to be “similar to Ange Postecoglou” by Daily Record journalist Gavin Berry, the 52-year-old boss has proven throughout his career that he can coach a team to win titles, winning eight trophies, including five league titles, with SH Port, Yokohama F. Marinos, and Melbourne Victory.

Rohl, meanwhile, has never won a trophy as a first-team manager and has lost four successive games in his first-ever title race as a head coach to finish third in a three-team race.

Whilst Muscat was quick to distance himself from talk about the Gers job after they went with Rohl last year, SH Port’s current form could open the door for talks to start up again.

If the Light Blues decide to make a decision and relieve the German head coach of his duties, Muscat could be the perfect appointment to be brought in.

Making a change now would give the Australian tactician the full summer transfer window to bring in players to suit his style and tactics, rather than ending up in a position where a manager has none of his own signings.

Rangers have sacked a manager midway through the first half of a campaign too many times in recent years, thinking back to Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Michael Beale, Russell Martin, and Philippe Clement.

Sacking Rohl now and going in a new direction would allow them to avoid repeating the history that they want to move on from at Ibrox.
