Celtic are now perfectly positioned to sign Elijah Just ahead of Old Firm rivals Rangers this summer.

Celtic well-placed to sign Elijah Just

Once celebrations come to an end, there’s a lot of work for the Scottish Premiership champions to get through. It was not a dominant title win, far from it in fact. Celtic were forced to battle from behind and shock Hearts on the final day, as the most dramatic title race that Scotland has seen in years unfolded.

It’s one that the Bhoys would rather not repeat, hence why they’re already looking towards the summer transfer window. And whilst names like Kasper Hogh have threatened to steal the headlines as of late, it could yet be a Scottish Premiership star who arrives.

According to Football Insider, Celtic are now well-placed to sign Just ahead of Rangers this summer. The Motherwell star is a top target for the Bhoys, as they set their focus on reigniting their attacking spark on a consistent basis.

Although Rangers are also interested, it is champions Celtic who reportedly hold the advantage. Whether a deal will have to wait until after Just’s World Cup duties with New Zealand is something to keep an eye on, however.

Former Premier League chief, Mick Brown, spoke to Football Insider about the winger’s future, saying: “Elijah Just is exactly the type of player Celtic are looking at.

Celtic are reportedly interested in signing a centre-forward who would be a big upgrade on Kelechi Iheanacho.

“It’s difficult for clubs in Scotland to find players, it’s not like in the Premier League where you can go and get anybody for anywhere with the money involved. Celtic need to use their budget wisely, and signing the best players in Scotland is the most reliable way to do that, because you know how they perform in the league.

“A lot of the time, players can struggle to get to grips with the style of play, so when somebody like Just comes along and shows he can perform, it puts him on their radar.”

Why Celtic should sign Elijah Just

In terms of ready-made stars, Just is the perfect option for Celtic to turn towards this summer. He knows exactly what it takes to perform at the highest level in Scotland, having been involved in 15 goals in all competitions for Motherwell this season.

At a time when Celtic’s attack is so unpredictable for all the wrong reasons, they could do with taking a safe gamble on someone like the 26-year-old this summer.

Daizen Maeda could certainly do with a creator like Just alongside him, too. The forward may have found his form at the perfect time this season, but there’s no denying that his overall numbers dropped off. The arrival of Just could change that.
