Ipswich Town have now submitted a bid for a “powerful” forward, who has been impressing for his country, and they have received a response.

Ipswich planning aggressive approach in transfer market

By qualifying for the Europa League, Sunderland showed what can be achieved if promoted Championship sides get their recruitment right, and Ipswich are looking to emulate the Black Cats, according to chairman Mark Ashton.

Ashton said: “The Championship is brutal, but the Premier League is the best and toughest league in the world for a reason.

“It won’t be easy, but I think you have to look at clubs like Brentford, Brighton, what Sunderland have done this year, Leeds have done, Nottingham have done, that does give you hope.

“I think we’ll have to take a different approach to it this year, particularly around player and talent recruitment. But we’ll be front-footed, investors have already said they want to back to the hilt and we’ll go again.”

The Tractor Boys have already made two permanent signings, completing deals for defender Cedric Kipre and striker Chuba Akpom, and they are now looking to add another forward to their ranks.

Ipswich submit bid for Championship star

According to a report from Football Insider, Ipswich are now ramping up their pursuit of Millwall forward Femi Azeez, submitting a £20m bid for his services, which has been knocked back by the Championship side, who are holding out for £30m.

Azeez remains under contract until 2028, which means Millwall believe they are in a strong negotiating position, and there is ‘significant interest’ from rival suitors.

During his time with Reading, the right-winger was lauded by former manager Ruben Selles, who said: “I think Femi has been doing a really good job for us the entire season.

“In the beginning, he needed a little bit more luck with his end product, but he has been working hard on that. And when he finally got it, he now has that confidence. He is just such a powerful player for us.”

Since then, the Nigerian has established himself at Championship level, picking up 11 goals and eight assists in 35 matches during the regular season, before the Lions were knocked out of the play-offs by Hull City in the semi-final.

The 24-year-old has also started to make a name for himself at international level, and he is averaging two goals a game for Nigeria, having scored a brace in his first cap, which came in a friendly against Zimbabwe earlier this week.

As such, Azeez may now be ready to test himself at Premier League level, and he has proven he could play a role in Ipswich avoiding the drop.
