Tottenham have held talks to sign a record-breaking young star who Liverpool have made a formal offer, according to reports.

However you frame it, Spurs’ 2025/26 campaign has been a disaster, and the summer that follows may be the most important in the club’s modern history.

Roberto De Zerbi kept Spurs up — just — but the scale of the rebuilding job ahead of him is immense.

Marcos Senesi’s free transfer from Bournemouth is agreed in principle but not yet signed, while Spurs face a reported threat from Juventus in the race to sign Andy Robertson despite the deal looking done for week.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are both attracting serious interest from abroad, while Luka Vuskovic’s future remains uncertain, with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and a queue of elite clubs circling the teenage centre-back.

Spurs are eyeing new additions, after securing their Premier League status.

De Zerbi needs bodies, he needs leaders, and he needs them quickly.

But alongside the immediate firefighting, Spurs are also looking further ahead, and one name on their radar represents a bet on the future rather than a fix for the present.

Tottenham hold talks to sign Hertha Berlin sensation Kennet Eichhorn

According to TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey, Tottenham have held recent talks over a potential move for Hertha Berlin sensation Kennet Eichhorn.

The 16-year-old German midfielder has emerged as one of the most coveted young talents in European football this season after a breakthrough campaign in the Bundesliga 2 that has shattered records and drawn admiring glances from across the continent.

Eichhorn became the youngest player in Bundesliga 2 history when he made his debut against Karlsruhe on the opening weekend of the season, aged just 16 years and 14 days.

He then became the division’s youngest-ever starter against Hannover on Matchday 5 before capping a remarkable first senior campaign by scoring against Greuther Furth on Matchday 33 — making him the youngest goalscorer in the competition’s history at 16 years and 287 days, breaking a record that had stood since 1985.

The goal was the culmination of a season in which Eichhorn went from academy hopeful to first-team regular under head coach Stefan Leitl, who has spoken glowingly about the teenager’s composure, tactical intelligence and ability to dictate play from a deep-lying midfield role.

He has been at Hertha since the under-9s and is already captaining Germany’s Under-17 side, for whom he has four caps and two goals.

Spurs are far from the only club circling for Eichhorn, though.

Liverpool have submitted a formal offer for Eichhorn, while Man City had already positioned themselves earlier in the process with a detailed developmental pathway that would see him spend time on loan in Germany before eventually joining the Etihad.

Any move to England would come with a significant complication.

FIFA regulations prevent international transfers of players under 18, meaning Eichhorn could not formally join a Premier League club until July 2027 at the earliest.

That reality has made loan-back deals central to discussions, with both Liverpool and City offering the teenager influence over choosing an appropriate German club to continue his development.

Hertha’s valuation sits at around €20m according to Transfermarkt, and the bidding war among Europe’s heavyweights could push that figure higher.

For Spurs, securing a talent of this calibre — even on a delayed timeline — would represent exactly the kind of forward-thinking recruitment De Zerbi needs alongside the more immediate fixes.
