Manchester United are not wasting any time in the summer transfer window as they look to improve Michael Carrick‘s squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The Red Devils are reportedly keen on a deal to sign Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall in a move that could cost £60m, after he missed out on the England squad for the World Cup.
They have already agreed to sign Brazilian central midfielder Ederson from Atalanta for £39m to bolster their options in the middle of the park, and now they are looking for a new left-back.
Newcastle finished in the bottom half of the table and will not have European football to offer next season, which could open the door for some of their stars, including Hall, to explore moves elsewhere.
However, it now remains to be seen whether or not the club can strike a deal with the Magpies, who may not want to lose one of their key players this summer.
Man United are in talks to sign Bundesliga full-back
The Red Devils are assessing several options in the left-back position to find a suitable long-term replacement for Luke Shaw, who started all 38 Premier League games this season.
As part of their search for a player to compete with the English full-back next term, the club are reportedly eyeing a star who is even better than Hall.
According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United are one of the clubs interested in a deal to sign Eintracht Frankfurt left-back Nathaniel Brown in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The report claims that head of recruitment Christopher Vivell and sporting director Jason Wilcox are both big fans of the German defender and that they have already made contact to enter talks with his representatives over a move to Old Trafford.
It adds, though, that Bayern Munich have already agreed personal terms with Brown and that Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea are keen on snapping him up, which means that it will not be an easy race to win.
Frankfurt are said to value the Germany international at a whopping £55m and it remains to be seen whether or not United are willing to pay that much for the left-back this summer.
Why Man Utd should sign Nathaniel Brown over Lewis Hall
Vivell and Wilcox love the Bundesliga star and it is easy to understand why, as his performances in the German top-flight in the 2025/26 campaign were sublime.
Hall has proven himself in the Premier League and is an attractive target in that respect, but Brown has the potential to be an even better addition to the squad if he can carry his displays over to English football.
The Newcastle full-back struggled to provide quality on a regular basis at the top end of the pitch this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist in his 30 appearances in the league.

Brown, meanwhile, racked up an eye-catching four goals and four assists from a left-back position for Frankfurt, whilst Diogo Dalot and Shaw managed two goals and four assists between them.
The £55m-rated talent has the ability to make a big impact in the final third when bombing down the left flank on the overlap, which could add another dimension to Carrick’s attack, and one that Hall would not add.
Brown was described as having a “relentless work rate” by U23 scout Antonio Mango, which explains why he is able to get forward to support the attack so often, as he has the engine to get up and down the pitch constantly in games.
The Frankfurt star does not neglect his defensive duties as a left-back, despite his impressive attacking output, as he averaged more tackles per game and a higher ground duel success rate than Hall at league level this season.
Brown is just as willing to get stuck in to make a challenge to win the ball back for his team as he is to burst forward to take a shot or put a cross into the box, which is why he is such a complete left-back and why so many elite European teams want to sign him.
It is now down to the club to get a deal over the line for the £55m star instead of pursuing a move for Hall further, as he could be the perfect addition to the squad to compete with Shaw next season.
