As a club, Tottenham Hotspur have undergone radical change. It was only three years ago now that Harry Kane took his leave from north London and truthfully, a Europa League victory aside, it has all been down hill since.
The Lilywhites have been embroiled in back to back relegation battles, have had four managers in the last two seasons and have suffered from a bout of injuries.
Yet, with Roberto De Zerbi in charge, greater times appear to be on the horizon. They have a serious manager in charge and their recruitment, at least based on initial vibes, appears to be improving.
A move for legendary full-back Andy Robertson has already been completed while Marcos Senesi is due to be confirmed any day now. They are not the only Premier League players seemingly bound for Spurs.
Spurs move closer to signing big-money forward
With deals for Senesi and Robertson sealed on a free transfer, Spurs have turned their attention to spending a little more money on improvements elsewhere.
In the backline, Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke looks likely to join Tottenham. The player wants the move, personal terms are reportedly sewn up and all that’s left now is to agree a fee.
The defender is one of the most progressive around and would complement Senesi phenomenally at the heart of the Spurs defence.
That said, despite their dismal defensive record in 2025/26, conceding more goals than 16 sides in the Premier League, they also need to look at bolstering their offensive line.
Tottenham’s most expensive signings of all time

In the regard, one option on the table is Manchester City’s Savinho and as with Van Hecke, a deal appears to be moving ever closer.
Reports at the start of this week suggested that he had already agreed personal terms with De Zerbi’s side and that a fee was nearly agreed with the Citizens.
Well, according to the Daily Mail, talks over a move are now ‘advanced’ as a potential big-money £60m deal nears completion.
It’s stated that Savinho has wanted to sign for the club for a year, dating back to when the Lilywhites first showed an interest in the Brazilian. The move did not happen back then but the likelihood of it being concluded in the forthcoming weeks is growing by the day.
Talks are said to be ‘ongoing over the structure of the offer’.
Why Savinho could be Spurs’ new Son
Okay, we hear you loud and clear. How can a player so legendary as Son be replaced by Savinho, an outcast at Manchester City?
As when Kane left the capital behind, Spurs have really struggled to replace the South Korean. He exited a year ago and did so with a remarkable record under his belt of 173 goals in a whopping 454 appearances.
As Liverpool will find with Mo Salah this summer, you simply cannot expect to go into the transfer market and find an able replacement easily.
Savinho may well play on the opposing flank to Son but there are some comparisons here. While the Brazil international scored just one goal last season, that does not paint the full picture.
Indeed, like with Son, he’s one of the most direct wingers around and is simply devastating in one v one situations.
This season, the City winger only started seven times in the Premier League but when he did play, he made an impact, primarily through his elite carrying and dribbling ability.

One of the best dribblers in the league in 2024/25, the 22-year-old registered a whopping 9.76 progressive actions per 90 in 2025/26. 7.45 of those actions were progressive carries. For that metric, the youngster ranks among the top 1% of winger’s in Europe’s top five leagues.
As for Son, he is cut from a very similar cloth. Give him the ball and he’ll make things happen. His first thought, as it is with Savinho, is how he can progress play quickly and get at his man. He doesn’t look to pass backwards, and instead, will take on his man.
During the winger’s final season in London, he amassed 7.95 progressive actions and 4.21 progressive carries. 1.36 of those carries ended in a shot while 1.86 of Savinho’s resulted in an attempt at goal.
Son is certainly a better player. Not for one moment are we trying to suggest Savinho could emulate him in terms of overall output.
Yet, when it comes to changing the game from the wing via carries and creativity, there is plenty to like. The City outcast supplied as many as 13 goals in 2024/25 and was only second to Kevin De Bruyne for key passes per game at the Eithad with 1.6 that season.
£60m is a lot to pay for a player with one goal last season but he’s only 22, he’s Premier League proven and he’s one of the best dribblers in world football. There is still plenty to like.
