Wolverhampton Wanderers have now entered negotiations to sign an “incredible” transfer target, with manager Rob Edwards eager to secure his signature.
Rob Edwards’ rebuild underway ahead of Championship campaign
In truth, Wolves were relegated from the Premier League without putting up much of a fight, collecting just 20 points all season, which ultimately left them 21 points from safety, and Edwards believes a lack of leadership was one of the main problems.
“Some experience, some leadership has certainly been something that we’ve missed this season,” the manager said.
“That doesn’t mean players have to be 30-odd, they can be 23 with fantastic experience and knowledge of English football as well and they can be leaders as younger players as well. I think Mane is a leader in a different way. So you can be and it doesn’t mean we’re just looking for a certain type.
“The age thing, that’s just a number. The right person, that’s the right thing that we’re looking for.”
Kieran Trippier may be exactly what the Old Gold need, ahead of what they hope will be a promotion-winning Championship campaign, with the right-back joining from Newcastle United, after captaining the Magpies to an EFL Cup triumph in 2025.
Having secured the 35-year-old’s signature, Edwards is looking to add another experienced player to his squad.

Wolves enter talks to sign “incredible” Premier League player
According to a report from The Daily Mail, Wolves have now opened negotiations to sign former striker Raul Jimenez, who is set to leave Fulham when his £100,000-a-week contract comes to an end this summer.
Jimenez is set to take part in Mexico’s first World Cup game against South Africa on Friday, but the Old Gold have sent officials, who they are hoping will be able to convince him to return to Molineux.
Edwards is personally keen on signing the 35-year-old, alongside Trippier, as he wants to blend youth and experience, in order to secure an instant return to the Premier League.
Former Fulham boss Marco Silva has lauded the 126-cap Mexico international as “incredible”, and despite his age, he has remained a reliable source of goals for the Cottagers over the past three seasons.

The veteran striker has also proven himself at Wolves, chipping in with 57 goals and 23 assists in 166 matches, during what was a successful period, reaching the quarter-finals of the 2019-20 Europa League.
Jimenez’s goal return in the Premier League last season shows he may still have plenty to give, particularly at Championship level, but given that he is now 35-years-old, a one-year deal would perhaps make the most sense.
