Diego Lopes delivered a highlight-reel knockout against Steve Garcia to kick off UFC Freedom 250 at the White House on Sunday.
Garcia got off early, connecting with a right hand that stung Lopes. That seemed to cause some hesitancy in Lopes’ offense, as the two-time title challenger was content to hang back and try to counter Garcia’s advances. With Lopes content to stay on his back foot, Garcia proved to be the busier fighter throughout the first stanza and likely took a 10-9 lead on the scorecards.

Lopes continued to hesitate in the second, but things changed near the halfway point when the Brazilian bit down on his mouthpiece and pushed forward, connecting with a booming left hook that dropped Garcia.
Smelling blood in the water, Lopes jumped on Garcia and unleashed a flurry of ground strikes, eventually rendering Garcia unconscious and bringing an electrifying end to the contest.

Official Result: Diego Lopes def. Steve Garcia via TKO (left hook to ground and pound) at 2:42 of Round 2.
