A genuine superstar like Heung-min Son is what Tottenham Hotspur need to go to the next level.
Last season, they missed a whole host of things as they finished 17th in the Premier League but since Harry Kane and Son left two years apart, Spurs have lacked a world-class talent capable of destroying opponents.
Of course, finding that level of talent is not easy but it must be one of the biggest priorities this summer for the Lilywhites.
They look well on their way to doing just that. Manchester City’s Savinho has been touted with a big £60m move while Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali is now a top target.
That would be pretty special, wouldn’t it? So, what’s the latest on that deal and the state of play at Spurs right now?
Spurs looking to sign new winger
For Tottenham, one of their primary objectives this summer is to strengthen their defence. They have already done so with the additions of Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, while Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke is also widely expected to join.
They must not neglect the forward line either. Savinho is a key target and one year on from missing out on the Brazilian’s signature, Spurs are back at the table for this one and look set to eventually force through a move. The City man has reportedly already agreed personal terms.
The winger is not the only attacking player on their radar. Talks have allegedly been held over a shock move for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville is on the radar too.

However, if you believe reports coming out of France, they are said to be closing in on the addition of Lyon’s Malick Fofana.
Ferveur Lyonnaise claim that the player is on his way out of Ligue 1 with Spurs having submitted an offer of £22m, including add-ons for the wide player.
The Lyon star has allegedly already agreed to join Spurs and before too long could be on his way to London to officially pen terms.
Why Fofana could be Tottenham’s new Heung-min Son
In Savinho, Spurs would be signing a Premier League-proven winger who, despite his struggles for City last term, could be a game-changer on the right-hand side of the forward line.
He’s an excellent dribbler and a brilliant creator. He registered 13 assists for the Citizens back in 2024/25, which was his debut season in English football.
While the Brazilian would add depth and quality on the right, Fofana would add it in spades on the left-hand side of the attack.
Aged just 21, there are fears here that Spurs could sign yet another Wilson Odobert or Matys Tel but we implore you to reserve judgement until you have seen him play. After all, this is one of the most exciting wide players in France on his day.
Like many at Tottenham, Fofana had an injury hit 2025/26 campaign meaning he only played 16 times, scoring twice and assisting one goal. Yet, the campaign before he showed his true colours, bagging 11 goals and registering six assists either side of his 20th birthday.
The young Frenchman has been making waves at Lyon for a number of years now. At the start of the 2024/25 season, scout Jacek Kulig was comparing him to Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior for the way in which he combines ball control, flair, agility and two footedness out on the flanks.

Sure, he may not be replicating Vini’s overall numbers but this is an exciting winger, alright. Those traits happen to be also rather similar to a certain Heung-min Son.
Thomas Frank, in particular, really missed the South Korean during the first half of last season after he left for LA FC in MLS but they could rediscover some of Son’s best qualities by landing Fofana.
Like Son, European football expert Neal Gardner outlines that the young forward ticks boxes including “work ethic” and “ball-striking.” Como scout Ben Mattinson meanwhile remarks that Fofana’s best qualities see him thrive in “transitions and 1v1’s.” He can play “either side and accelerate so quickly in the first five yards.” That certainly sounds like Son, doesn’t it?
To rubberstamp that comparison, Scout Lab even outlines that during the 2024/25 season, Son was one of the 20 most similar players to the Lyon man in Europe’s top five leagues. Also on that list included direct wingers such as Anthony Gordon, Gabriel Martinelli, Rafael Leao and Bryan Mbeumo. This season, meanwhile, he was alike to Bukayo Saka and the aforementioned Odobert.
This term, the 21-year-old ranked among the top 12% of positionally similar players in Europe for progressive carries per 90 with 4.19.
Direct, agile and a confident ball striker, at long last Spurs may well find the heir to Son’s throne on the left flank by securing this move.
