Liverpool triggered the release clause of Spain winger Victor Munoz on Wednesday, and Fabrizio Romano has now revealed the club’s owners are not stopping there.
Liverpool agree deal for Victor Munoz
Liverpool are intent on strenghtening their attacking options this summer following the departure of Mohamed Salah and a serious achilles injury for Hugo Ekitike.
The Reds have been linked with countless wingers, namely RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande, who has thrived at the World Cup so far for Ivory Coast, winning man of the match in their opening win against Ecuador.
PSG and France star Bradley Barcola is also on the shortlist, with the 23 year-old considering his options with his contract in the French capital set to expire in 2028.
It was a name out of the blue who signed on the dotted line first however, with Romano breaking the bombshell news on Wednesday evening that Liverpool had hijacked Newcastle United’s move for Munoz.
The 22 year-old had a €40m release clause in his contract which was available to be triggered by any club, and the Reds swooped in to deny the Magpies at the last second.
The Osasuna winger, who scored six goals and provided two assists last season in 34 La Liga appearances, has already passed his medical and is set to sign a six-year contract at Anfield.
FSG and Michael Edwards have made a habit of signing players with very little forewarning during their tenure at the club, and Romano has also revealed what to look out for next.
Liverpool set to sign new winger and midfielder
The reporter revealed in his latest YouTube video that not only are Liverpool set to add another winger, they will also be ‘busy’ in the midfielder market this summer.
That is certainly a surprise, with centre-back seen by most as a more immediate priority.
Indeed, Virgil van Dijk is going into the final year of his contract, Joe Gomez continues to struggle with injuries, while youngsters Giovanni Leoni and Jérémy Jacquet have played zero Premier League minutes between them.
However, Romano believes Liverpool will dip straight into the market for a winger and midfielder once Munoz is all wrapped up.
“I expect Liverpool to be busy with midfielders, but I expect Liverpool to add one more winger.”
Romano also confirms Diomande is ‘for sure’ on the list – the Leipzig star scored 12 times and chipped in with eight assists in the Bundesliga last season, and at just 19 years of age is seen as a long-term replacement for Salah.
As for midfield targets, Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton has been heavily linked with a switch to Anfield despite concerns about his injury record.
Morocco and Lilly starlet Ayyoub Bouaddi has also emerged as a target in recent days, although the Reds will face competition from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United in what is expected to be a busy race for the teenager’s signature this summer.
