Crystal Palace are now accelerating their move to sign an impressive Celtic star, and have now received a much-needed boost from Parkhead chiefs.

The Eagles have recently welcomed new manager Pierre Sage and are instantly looking to put their European status to good use to back the former Lens boss.

Crystal Palace, Tottenham and PSG in talks for £35m defender who wants to play for Sage

The Eagles have a huge advantage.

He arrives with plenty of pressure to live up to expectations following the departure of Oliver Glasner. He’s arguably replacing the greatest manager in the club’s history and will need to hit the ground running.

The first task on Sage’s agenda could be to find a replacement for Adam Wharton, who continues to attract interest from Liverpool. The Reds are in the mood to spend big once again this summer, and that could be at the detriment to the Eagles.

It would leave them scrambling for quality in the middle of the park and whilst names such as Hayden Hackney have been mentioned as potential options, it could yet be a Celtic star who comes in ahead of next season.

Crystal Palace “pushing” to sign Celtic star

As reported by TeamTalk, Crystal Palace are now “pushing” to sign Arne Engels from Celtic, who are ready to green light the midfielder’s sale if the South London club reach their £25m asking price.

For the Bhoys, that would be a joint-record sale. For Palace, though, it should be a routine asking price to hit if they sell Wharton to a club of Liverpool’s calibre this summer.

Engels is someone who looks destined to leave Scotland in the coming months. It’s just a matter of who can take advantage, with Nottingham Forest also sniffing around.

In terms of quality, the 22-year-old is certainly ready to take the Premier League by storm. There’s good reason why Celtic are demanding a club record and why Palace could meet that asking price.

The one other obstacle could actually be Wharton. It remains to be seen whether Palace are keen to wait for his future to be confirmed before finding a replacement.
