Manchester United’s main priority in the transfer window this summer has been no secret as of late – complete an overhaul of the club’s midfield department.

Casemiro’s departure from Old Trafford has highlighted the need for an added ball-winner, whilst Manuel Ugarte is also expected to follow the Brazilian out of the door.

Michael Carrick’s men have already made key moves in the window, subsequently agreeing a £40m deal with Atalanta for the services of Ederson – who’s currently at the World Cup with Brazil.

INEOS are said to be targeting at least two other additions at the heart of the side, but no other transfers have yet been agreed with any player currently on their shortlist.

However, other areas of the squad will also be the subject of major investment, with a real importance on this summer’s window being the catalyst for potential Premier League success next term.

£60m Premier League star now wants to join Man Utd

As part of this summer’s recruitment drive, United will no doubt be once again keeping a close eye on the Premier League market and trying to prise some top talents away from other sides in the division.

West Ham United may have suffered relegation from England’s top-flight, but the Red Devils are keen to take advantage and are pursuing a move for winger Crysencio Summerville.

It’s been reported that talks have already been held with the player’s representatives over a move to Old Trafford, leading to a £50m price tag being mooted for his signature.

The Dutch international isn’t the only player based in the United Kingdom in the sights of INEOS, with Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall another being considered at present.

According to The Sun, the player himself is aware of the interest from United and would be extremely keen on a move to join Carrick’s side ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The report states that the 21-year-old is said to be disappointed after missing out on the England World Cup squad – subsequently pinning the blame on current boss Eddie Howe.

However, any deal would likely be an expensive one for the Red Devils this window, as the Magpies could demand at least £60m to offload their talented full-back.

Why Hall would be a better signing than Fernandes for United

Summerville isn’t the only player from West Ham currently in United’s sights this summer, with midfielder Mateus Fernandes a star the Red Devils are desperately trying to sign.

Like the winger, the Portuguese star is set to depart the London Stadium after relegation, but the Hammers are determined not to sell the 21-year-old on the cheap.

A fee in the region of £85m has been mooted to secure his signature – a simply astronomical figure for a player who has only enjoyed on successful campaign in the Premier League.

However, Carrick and INEOS are trying to negotiate a lower transfer fee this summer in an attempt to secure a long-term solution to their current midfield issues at Old Trafford.

Whilst Fernandes undoubtedly caught the eye last term, such a lofty figure will no doubt be a concern to supporters with cheaper and potentially more cost-effective deals available.

Hall may be a left-back and not a central midfielder by trade, but a move for his signature could prove to be a better addition – especially for the rumoured price tag that’s been mooted.

The Newcastle star has spent the last three years as a regular starter under Howe on Tyneside and has subsequently developed into one of the best left-backs in the division.

A long-term solution in such an area is also wanted by INEOS this summer, with a move for the 21-year-old able to secure the club a top-level talent for the immediate and long-term future.

During the 2025/26 campaign, the youngster managed to complete a staggering 1.5 successful dribbles per 90 – ranking him in the top 5% of defenders in Europe.

The aforementioned figure highlights his tremendous ability at driving the ball into dangerous areas, but he’s also put the finishing touches on his runs – as seen by his 29% cross completion rate.

However, without the ball, Hall has been just as impressive in recent times, as seen by his tally of 5.5 ball recoveries and 2.2 tackles made per 90 throughout 2025/26.

The former of the two stats ranks him in the top 4% of full-backs in the Premier League, with the youngster proving himself to be a sensational all-round option for United.

£60m would be yet another huge deal for the Red Devils, but it’s one that would hand them a player who can easily reach the next level during the years ahead.

At just 21, he’s already showcased his ability to star at the top level, and his desire to move to Old Trafford could make a deal somewhat easier to complete.
