They really ought to know better, by now. The first pitch of the top of the eighth was called a strike Sunday, and Christian Walker challenged, but he really ought to know better, by now. Dillon Dingler got him again. The pitch—a backup slider from Kyle Finnegan—had zipped right in under Walker’s raised hands and found the edge of the plate. Dingler made it look just good enough to earn the call, but not so good that Walker would believe that call legitimate. Was that an elaborate trap? Or did Walker just get himself out, so to speak? Most of the time, the safe bet is that a hitter made their own foul luck and that a catcher isn’t some evil genius. But when it comes to Dingler, we all ought to know better by now.
