It’s already been a busy summer at Rangers. They’ve welcomed a new era by hiring Derek McInnes and he’s been joined by Lawrence Shankland, Ben Godfrey, Dan Neil, Ross McCrorie and goalkeeper Ivor Pandur. The 49ers are backing their new manager in full.
As the incomings continue to flow through the door, however, it’s Lyon who are looking to sneak a star out of the exit door at Ibrox. The French giants have set their sights firmly on Youssef Chermiti.

Football FanCast’s Verdict |
|
|---|---|
|
Credibility |
It’s not the first time that there’s been interest in Chermiti and Rangers have consistently remained firm on a hefty asking price. This time around, however, Lyon are reportedly willing to go beyond that value – making this one to watch. |
|
Finances |
Chermiti’s market value sits at just €15m (£13m) and Lyon are reportedly willing to offer less than €20m (£17m), including bonuses, which would exceed that market value. If that is the case, then Rangers have plenty to think about. |
|
Insight |
It took a while for him to get going at Ibrox, but the forward did become a big-game player last season, scoring seven goals against Celtic and Hearts. |
|
Impact |
Chermiti’s exit could see Rangers turn to the market for another striker of their own and, for around £17m, they could even land a big uprade – breaking their transfer record in the process. |
With Shankland signed and a big-money offer certainly tempting, Chermiti will be one to watch at Rangers in the coming months.
Lyon open talks to sign Chermiti
According to Foot Mercato, Lyon are now prepared to blow Rangers away with their Chermiti offer, offering above his £13m value with a bid in the region of €20m (£17m).
Talks are underway and question marks are beginning to emerge over the forward’s immediate future at Ibrox.
If Lyon submit an offer worth £17m, then Chermiti could, of course, become one of the most expensive sales in Rangers history.

Why Rangers should keep Chermiti
He wasn’t always consistent last season, but Chermiti’s ability to come away with an important goal on the biggest occasions should not go unnoticed. It is a trait that cannot be taught and one that McInnes should value highly.
With Shankland leading the line, there will be more than enough goals to go around to make up for the forward’s difficulties against low blocks.
It’s also worth noting that Chermiti is still just 22 years old. He’s likely to get better and, as such, his value is likely to increase. If the 49ers want to cash in, then they should hold out another year and watch on as their transfer record is smashed.
