Chelsea might not have European football to offer transfer targets next season, but they do have Xabi Alonso at the helm, with the Spanish tactician determined to lift Stamford Bridge back to its former standing.

The BlueCo era has been choppy, but not without success, and if Alonso can find a way to stabilise Chelsea, the titles picked up in recent years could serve as an appetiser for bigger dishes in the Premier League and the Champions League.

The powers that be have had no issue with spending money since replacing Roman Abramovich several years ago, but the scattergun approach employed has not given rise to the right kind of sustained results.

Indeed, Chelsea will not play a part in European competition next year, a blow after finishing 10th in the league last year, their fate sealed with a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland on the final day of the term.

With Marc Cucurella having joined Real Madrid, Chelsea have been braced for further interest in superstars such as Enzo Fernandez, though the Argentina midfielder may not follow him to the Spanish capital.

Fernandez’s Chelsea replacement already being lined up

Fernandez has intimated to his representatives that he is seeking a fresh challenge this summer. Chelsea finished tenth, after all, and he fancies a continuation of continental competition.

But Fernandez was the leader of the side who slid down the ladder last season, and now, Real Madrid have issued a public declaration that they have no interest in striking a deal for the 25-year-old, who Chelsea have priced at £120m.

There is a long way to go before the end of the window, and Chelsea need to prepare for every eventuality, setting their sights on an exciting replacement.

As per TEAMtalk, Chelsea are ready to say yes to signing LOSC Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi this summer, with the 18-year-old currently dazzling with Morocco at the World Cup.

Bouaddi is a prodigious talent, and though he is young and inexperienced, Lille know that they are onto a winner, thus pricing him at £85m.

The teenager is also on Arsenal and Manchester City’s radar, all of whom would be interested in mimicking any offers from Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool and Manchester United are considering stepping back, neither outfit happy with loaning him back to France for the upcoming season, unlike Chelsea and co.

As for Bouaddi himself, the player is ‘open to all of the options in front of him’, suggesting that he would be keen to join the Blues.

Why Bouaddi is the best of Fernandez and Caicedo

Chelsea have two of Europe’s best midfielders in Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, and while Caicedo is going nowhere, Bouaddi could bring elements of both skillsets to take Chelsea to the next level.

Efforts continue to sign Granit Xhaka from Sunderland, but Bouaddi would add something different, something that could take Chelsea right back to the top, with the youngster already hailed as a prospect who is “going to become a superstar” by analyst Asim Mahmood.

Chelsea are willing to pay the big bucks for top talents if they deem they are ready. Caicedo arrived at Stamford Bridge for a record-breaking £115m fee in 2023, when he was only 21 years old.

He was ready for the occasion, and Bouaddi could be too, a mainstay in France for Lille and a ‘superstar’ for his country, who have their sights set on a historic World Cup title.

In fact, when you look at the elegant Moroccan’s skillset in comparison to Fernandez’s, you maybe see that he could be the perfect fit for a Chelsea team in transition.

He is more robust and combative than Chelsea’s Argentine talisman, and he would share with Enzo a journey toward London after a breakout World Cup campaign.

Just as Chelsea completed deals for Fernandez and Caicedo after respective breakout efforts at the 2022 World Cup, they are now looking to do the same with Bouaddi, a young midfielder who is showing all the guile and technical quality needed to become a superstar.

Though he may have to remain with Lille for the 2026/27 campaign, it would be a move that would pay off for the Blues.
