The Michigan Wolverines don’t give in easily. This is a championship-caliber football program, and they’ve made changes to come back strong after the drama with former head coach Sherrone Moore.
But that doesn’t mean it’s smooth sailing for the maize and blue. The NCAA is a different ballgame now, literally. The Wolverines have suffered some turnover as of late for a variety of reasons, but a big one has been the Moore situation.
Plus, the NCAA is packed with strong contenders. There was never a phase in college football that wasn’t competitive. Now, the Wolverines and quarterback Bryce Underwood are getting a warning of sorts.
Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood gets a message before 2026 season
There are some lingering questions for Michigan ahead of the 2026 season, but that’s true of every team. In a feature from ESPN out on Friday, Underwood gets a warning about his offense.
“Underwood, the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit last year, immediately won a starting job as a true freshman,” Jake Trotter wrote. “But operating with limited weapons around him amid the chaos surrounding former coach Sherrone Moore, Underwood had an up-and-down debut season, completing just 60.3% of his passes with 11 touchdowns.”
Trotter added that head coach Kyle Whittingham has said one of his main objectives is to turn the talented Underwood into a “completely finished product.” Trotter says that if that happens, “Michigan could emerge as a surprise contender in the Big Ten.”
It’s a strange world when Michigan is considered an underdog in the Big Ten. But, considering their track record, that label won’t last long.
